Guest guest
Thank you Warren for posting the positives on Sucralose. I have been using Splenda for about 5 months now and have not had any of the purported neurological, gastroinstestinal and dermatitis problems that have been put out there by my fave health guy, Dr. Mercola. I wrote him a letter today saying that I found the posted letters suspect in that they all sound to have been written by the same person or the same "type" of person. Doggone it! I say leave my Splenda alone! I have done a lot of work on my nutrition and I want to rest for awhile where I am at. Kim
Guest guest
I had a lot of respect for him until very recently as he makes blanket statements with little evidence to support his "blankets". This latest one on Splenda makes me nuts. Sucralose does not impact blood sugar and for those of us with blood sugar problems it has been a blessing. Thanks for the input, Kim
Guest guest
Kim: We have had several discussion about Dr Mercola on this board. He is not well respected by most of us. Search the archives for previous discussions, but in a nutshell, his claims are not backed up by the same sound scientfic studies as Dr Walford and others such as Ornish. on 12/30/2003 2:22 PM, kimlynette@... at kimlynette@... wrote: > Thank you Warren for posting the positives on Sucralose. Guest guest
Dr. Mercola, his website, and his newsletter all have problems with various advocacy positions that are ill-advised or dangerous. He endorses such things as raw milk (a recognized threat to public safety, and illegal in some places). Mercola advocates aggressive cod liver oil supplementation (harms bone health; proven link to osteoporosis in humans; excess retinol vitamin-A is harmful fat soluble nutrient that builds up in the body, with no way to undo its harm, other than quit taking it, etc). Dr. Mercola also sells health supplements -- a dangerous conflict of interest. Congratulations on your CR success. Your participation and eye-opening results are phenomenal. -- Warren -----Original Message----- From: kimlynette@... I have > been using Splenda for about 5 months now and have not had any of > the purported neurological, gastroinstestinal and dermatitis > problems that have been put out there by my fave health guy, Dr. > Mercola. I have been using Equal (aspartame) for oh... I don't know ... 15+ years or more, and, like you, Kim, I have not had any of the purported problems that have been associated with it. I now vacillate between Equal and Splenda, depending on the dish, etc. According the Consumer Reports ON NUTRITION monthly newsletter, Aspartame has undergone the *most* rigorous testing of any articifical sweetener and has pass all the tests, with the exception of those who have the relatively rare disorder (phenylketonura, PKU) which prevents them from consuming one of the two active chemical ingredients/amino acids in Aspartame (L-alpha-aspartyl-L- phenylalanine methyl ester). I'm not suggesting that anyone use Equal or its equivalents, just that it seems to be pretty darn safe for the general population also, when it is used in moderation. In general, however, I have retrained myself to avoid using sweetners of ANY kind (natural, artificial, imaginary!) as much as possible, relying, instead on the natural sweetness of foods prepared and eaten in 'mother nature's wrapper.' There are some foods, like coffee, that I won't consume if not sweetened, but many of the foods that I used to find needed a " sweet boost, " I either no longer eat, or have found a way to enjoy them without the dash or two of sweetener. This is not to say that adding a sweetener is inadvisable. It is just the route that I have found myself taking as I have evolved in my application of CRON. And I wouldn't suggest anyone else do likewise. Each of us is an " experiment of one, " and as we have individual makeups (biological, neurological, hormonal), as well as conditioned belief systems and thought patterns, any approach to life that is not to cause distress and upset needs to come out of the understanding that life, in all its forms, is an private journey, expressed through individual choices. What is seemingly " perfect " and which works for one person may be a disaster when used as a model for another. Discover the fit that fits you best. And enjoy! ~andy
