Hi,

I am one year vegan. I am agree that vegan CR diet alot harder.

I listed my food groups. Especially some food groups contain alot of fiber, so I don't feel starvation or so much hungry.

1. Lots of Vegetables (salads, vegetable soups and steamed vegetables)

2. Fruits (good as snack and for breakfast, for example 2-3 middle sized apple a day)

3. Cereals & Grains (especially breakfast muesli and integral bread, brown rice)

4. Beans (25 gram every day, especially soy bean)

5. Nuts & Seeds (25 gram ever day also good for snack)

6. Oils (olive and/or canola) (max 1 table spoon) (I am in low-fat diet. So you can adjust oil amaount according to your diet type)

7. Fatty Acids (Flaxseed - borage combo liquid) (1 tablespoon)

No sugar, no white flour, no white rice!!!!

If you are used to sweety taste, you may eat baked apple with raisin and cinnamon, fresh fruits and pure fruit jams (without sugar).

I also take 2 supplements (GNC multivitamin vegeterian formula and calcium) for B12, calcium and others minerals and vitamins (as insurance).

Hakan.

Hi,are there any vegan CR people outhere? Could you give me some tips on succeeding at a vegan CR diet, especially in terms of the type of food that you choose to eat and how you space out your meals?I realize these things are very individual but I would like to get some input. Doing vegan CR seems alot harder. I am currently relying on more fortified foods, esepcially fortified cereals.

Hi Temma,

If you're switching to vegan, try lacto vegetarian first. And eat your salad (raw veggies) last. I'm not sure all people can be vegans because some people require more protein than others. A good lacto-veg book is Ornish.

Regards.

I am also vegan, Hakan, and I have just discovered the nutrient density (especially in regard to lycopene) in tomato paste. I like to dip broccoli in it. A 6oz serving costs less than a pound of tomatoes and has a lot more lycopene. You can check the other nutrients in it (and many more foods) at nutritiondata.com.

I am glad that some CRONies are vegan. They fit together quite well.

Brad (my son's name): be sure to heat the tomato paste and add a bit of fat

such as olive oil. Heated tomato sauce/paste with a bit of fat is what

releases the lycopene. Plain cold tomato is inferior. This is one example

where cooked/heated food is superior to uncooked.

My suggestion is to read Eat to Live by Mark Fuhrman, MD. The 120 Year Diet by Dr. Walford also contains many concepts that fit well into a vegan diet even though Dr. Walford does not advocate a vegan diet.

Here is about what I eat daily: http://fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=OptimalNutrition. I usally enjoy the fruits early in the day, then the raw veggies, then the cooked greens and pumpkin seeds, then the soy nuts with peanuts and sunflower seeds. I am always looking for ways to improve it and have ordered some flaxseed and filberts.

Do you have any more specific questions?

I think that CRON is very compatible with being vegan, espeically if you eat lots of unadulterated veggies. That is the main key, as I see it, to the weight management and optimizing the nutrition. I eat no grains and take a gneric version of Centrum Silver. I feel great, have no problems with hunger and enjoy every bite of the food!

Was any of this helpful? Feel free to write to me off the list if you like.

Best wishes for 4!
