Guest guest
Yassas & Howdy all, And the proof is in the pudding (so to speak). In line with the TMT work I referenced, when death was brought up, followed by a short delay (distraction), we ended up with quite a vehement sense of division and derogation on the list (no finger pointing, since I think I'd need more fingers...). At any rate, it's a lumpy pudding, so let's get back to Warren's guar puddings (which can be equally lumpy if made wrong...). For the record, I experimented (quite informally) with mentioning death on the other listserve about 5 years back, and the responses was consistently very angry exchanges arising from apparently nowhere and among people who previously got along just fine... I personally don't think actual religous discussion will contribute much in this particular forum, but I don't think it would cause any problems either (using the subject line idea), especially since it is likely a major part of some CRONies' lives. Let's just perhaps be aware that reminders of certain topics are likely to cause flares, and one of those subjects is very much a sub-text for the listserv itself. If death is an unspoken or perhaps even 'censored' subtext to life-extension and promoting health, then we're probably going to find an increased propensity to taking sides, being divisive, and getting to the flares seen so much on the other list, especially if we displace thinking about death itself with thinking about religion, ethnicity, race, nationality, etc... (which is, of course, what our minds have a propensity to do -- displace the uncomfortable with the familiar). If any of my comments caused offense, I do apologise. As I said, I try to stay away from religious discussions that attempt to discuss 'fact,' 'truth,' or other big words that scare me (I'm simple minded), but I am keenly interested in the function and influence religous feelings have. At some point, I think there's much on the two CRON lists to discuss on this issue, but I don't think the time has come yet. As for the humour part, Yaweh, Buddha, and Krishna walk into a bar...
