The test will almost certainly show that you are deficient in iodine. It

is not a standard test, and we have posted critiques of its validity.

So, if you are inclined to believe the nonsense posted about iodine

deficiency, keep the money for the test and just buy some iodine.

However, be warned that some people react badly to it. Let us know if it

helps.

iodine is just HUGE but I agree that almost everyone tests low in it. maybe

that is b/c they have illnesses related to iodine deficiency??

in the best of all possible worlds iodine/iodide will become a very important

healing modality.

The Merck Manual states that almost all hypothyroidism is due to iodine

deficiency. It does not serve us well to discount that possibility.

" Iodine deficiency decreases thyroid hormonogenesisis; TSH is released, the

thyroid gland enlarges under the TSH stimulus and traps iodine avidly, and

goiter ensues. If iodine deficiency is severe, the patient becomes

hypothyroid, but this disease is virtually extinct in the USA since the advent

of

iodized salt. " p. 1043.

Unfortunately, they do not mention ever prevalent bromide and fluoride,

which inhibit the absorption of iodine, nor the fact that many people for

culinary and health reasons use kosher or sea salt.

That is certainly news, since by far the most common cause of hypoT is

the autoimmune condition called hashimoto's. Please give us a single

peer reviewed study that is consistent with this outrageous conclusion.

You quotation simply confirms that iodine deficiency is almost certain

to lead to hypoT. That is a LONG way from saying that almost all hypoT

comes from iodine deficiency.

The Merck considers the RDA of iodine to be the standard 0.15 mg per

day. If you get that much, the Merck says you are not deficient. Gracia

says that we need in the neighborhood of 100 mg per day.

That is a completely different ball of wax.

Dr. Brownstein and others say that Hashis is caused by iodine deficiency.

http://www.drbrownstein.com I don't know why you consider a trace of iodine to

be an acceptable RDA, considering the way iodine/iodide used to be used in

medicine. And Gracia does not say that everyone needs 100mg per day--I say

that is what I take. many ppl who are well take 12.5mg Iodoral per day--ppl

who are sick should start with 50mg. this dose will remove toxins that have

built up in our bodies, like bromide.

If I had been given enough iodine/iodide as a child, I could have gone on to

have a " normal " life instead of a hellish one.

Chuck...I did write that because that is a direct quote from the Merck

Manual. I didn't make it up. I just think it is " throwing out the baby with

the

bath water " to overlook the possible role of iodine deficiency in

hypothyroidism.

it's fascinating to look at the older Merck manuals! I have some excerpts

saved that I will try to forward.

Or maybe because the tests are designed to give low results so that the

people you buy from can sell more iodine? You know,Sorta like your

accusations about big pharma.
