What are your labs?

CW

So what I am supposed to think when my thyroid labs are normals but my

resting temp in

the AM is consistently 97-97.6F degrees?

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

HI,

Here are my serum labs:

Free T4 14.1 Range 9-19

Free T3 3.9 Range 2.6-6

TSH 2.42 Range .3-5

I also have a nodule on my thyroid and it feels swollen on the left side.

Thanks,

what thyroid med are you on?

because from the look of your labs, you need a higher dose. your T3 should be in

the upper 2/3's of the range- that is closer to the 6.

the T4 looks ok, but it could be higher. don't worry about the TSH- it is

worthless. a good provider will never dose by the TSH- it is not even a thyroid

hormone. it is released by the anterior pituitary gland.

HI,

I am not on anything but vitamins and kelp/fucus tincture. The dr. does not

think anything

is wrong even though I showed him my temperature chart. I went to NP that has me

taking

my temperature, taking magnesium, zing, D3 and B vits and I put myself on

kelp/fucus.

My mom and two sisters are on Synthroid.

I went in because my hair was falling out and I have internal trembling.

So what can I do more? Dr. won't do anything and maybe I can deal with it

naturally??

What do you think?

Thanks,

You're TSH is high although you shouldn't treat by tsh anyway. T4 should be

midrange, but looks okay. T3 should be nearer to the 6. Looks like you

need more meds. Are you taking Armour?

, you need to ask for Armour and see if that helps with symptoms. Also

check to see if you can get an antibodies test to see if you have hashi's.

If so then tests mean nada and you should dose by symptoms.

HI,

Thank you all for responding. I appreciate it.

I live in Australia and they do not use Armour or any glandulars (thyroid ground

up and

given as supplement)

What if I have antibodies? What do I do with that?

the best way to treat the hypo T is with thyroid hormones. the best med is

armour or other similar products that have all the hormones T1-4 in them.

synthroid is crap [iMHO] because it has only T4 and if you are like most people

on this board, you may not be converting the T4 into T3 [ which drives the

metabolism]

if you can find a natural medicine provider an DO or ND or an MD with natural

medicine training, they will be open to prescribing armour.

do you live near santa monica, ca? because I have a great MD who uses armour

herself.

also, can you afford to buy online? I have an website where you can get armour

without a scrip because it is international. if you write me off list I will

give it to you. I have used this site before when I did not have a armour

friendly MD. I never had a problem with customs.

also, you need to get tested for antibodies to see if you have Hashis, which is

the auto-immune version.

HI,

Australian customs will stop all glandulars from entering the country. Grrrr

So It looks like I am out of luck.

I will be flying to Calif in June though.

But I would not have a clue what dose to take. I would like to try it though.

I am fully aware of the delicacy of fiddling with hormones--but I think I have

needed

Armour for yeeeears.

What can one do if they have hashi?

Is armour then contraindicated?

Thanks,

Yes! They rip open EVERY package I get that has supplements in it. If they see

it comes

from a gland they will destroy it or charge me to mail it back to the usa.

HI,

Thank you for the article. The dr told me today that perhaps I needed to go to a

shrink to

deal with the internal trembling because it is probably from an emotional cause

and not my

thyroid!

I FEEL I have been suffering with sluggish thyroid for at least 20 years but it

never shows up

on lab tests!! My sisters and mom all have hypothyroidism...

Oh and by the way I am not a hypochondriac. I RARELY go to the dr.

I would like to try Armour as I think it would help. It's not good to have

internal trembling for

months on end and a full feeling thyroid.

hi

this is the kind of crappy treatment we get from many docs. why don't you

suggest to doc that he see a shrink for his arrogant attitude towards women?

look for another doc--there is a worldwide topdoc list on

http://www.thyroid.about.com

can you order meds from other countries without Rx? Email me for a list

Brownstein MD http://www.drbrownstein.com thinks hashis should be

treated with iodine/iodide. which may also raise your TSH. enough to get

treatment.

your doc might give you meds if tests say you have hashis.

Hi ,

I haven't read all the responses to your question on this but you

talked about trembling inside your body. I also had that for awhile.

I thought it was related to a sulfite sensitivity because on the

group sulfitesnomore there were a couple of

people that had the same sypmtoms and were relating it to what they

were ingesting i.e. foods, drink or even inhaling things with sulfites

in them. However, I think for me it was because my antibody count

was high. Since I have reduced my antibodies I do not have that

feeling anymore.....knock on wood. Hope this helps. I would get the

TPO and antithyroglobulin tests done though.

What time of morning is your 97 degree reading? That is actually fairly

typical for getting up. It should be closer to 99 by 10:00 a.m. Are you

dieting or fasting?

Some of those supplements can cause " trembling, " if you get too much.

Of course this board is not a representative sample of all hypothyroid

people. Synthroid is I believe the third most prescribed medicine in

the US, and probably something between 90% and 99% take that alone and

have no problems.

From where did you get your percentages? It may be the third most prescribed

medicine in

the United States, but that doesn't mean that 90 to 99% of the people

prescribed that medication alone don't have problems with it. Every woman I know

that's hypothyroid has had trouble with synthroid alone. I don't really know any

men with the illness, so maybe they are the ones most happy with it. I believe

that men and women (for the most part) react differently to different things,

and I don't feel that all the doctors have reconciled with this, and that too

many of them try to treat women like men, and become annoyed when they don't

react the same.

You're right, Venezia, lots of men tend not to question doctors or complain.

That's why they have been dying first for so long. IMO Women are catching up. I

see women more and more acting like men, and I don't think it does them good.

There is more stress and more illness.
