Guest guest
hi AJ- I am on armour; my starting dose on 9/24/07 was 1.75 grains because I was on 150 mg of synthroid [ or .150 mcg} I am now on 2.75 grains of armour. I have found I have to raise very slowly as I near 3 grains. I am not any cortisol because I refuse to after being on 10 years of high dose gluccocortoid steroids aka decadron- which destroyed my body and I am deathly allergic to iodine. nancie Question for those on Armour or those who have been on Armour If you are on Armour, could you tell me how much your beginning dose, how much you currently take and how long it took to get to where you are? Guest guest
I'm currently on 2 grains of Thyrolar (made by same company) but began to get atril fibrillation. I have divided the dose 1 in morning and 1 in afternoon with food. Good so far. I'd still like to increase it but I'm taking it real slow. Guest guest
Hi AJ, I initially started with 1 grain and went up to 2 grains in one week. Then I stayed on that for about 2 weeks, and then started alternating between 2 and 3 grains every other day for about 4 weeks, and then went to 3 grains for about 1 month. Finally went to 3 1/2 grains and was on that for about 1 month...it was too much too fast. Lost hair, felt good, but started having skipped heart beats. Finally, I had to cut back, and now am adressing adrenals. Now, on 1 grain, and slowly working back up. Guest guest
Changing your dose of Armour or Thyrolar takes a bit of time. Probably in most cases 4 weeks to the next dose. It's really important to make sure that the T3 in the med is not going to cause a problem with your heart. Guest guest
Crystal, Why are you having trouble finding a pharmacy to fill it as your doctor prescribed? Is it because of the shortage of the 3grain? Venizia > > I feel your pain! I haven't had Armour yet this year:) I just found a > pharmacy who will fill it like the doc wrote it. If they are not a retarded pharmacy they can easily make your Rx's into the lower grain tabs if the high gran tabs are unavailable. Guest guest
Well my doc rx's me Armour thyroid LA (long acting). So, I have had mail order through my insurance for a long time. It is much cheaper and I get 3 months worth at a time. Well when he started giving me 180 mg all in one I still sent it in and got it back and it just looked like a big Armour pill. Well, the last rx I sent in never got filled, because the pharmacy ran out??? So I had been thinking it was compounded, but apparently, as I found out today, if it were compounded it would have been in a capsule rather than a tablet. So I guess it IS because of a 3 grain shortage even though nobody was ever able to tell me that. I'm not sure if my mail in substituted the 3 grain for the LA or what. I am going to start this new compounded capsule tomorrow and see if I feel any different. The bad part is, the compounding pharmacy doesn't file insurance for you so when I went in to pick up 90 pills, it was gonna be 70.00. So I opted for 30 for 29 (you do the math). I go back to the doc in feb so I will be asking for 60 mg tabs. I wanna try this splitting the dose thing anyway. Okay, I'm done. cw -- Re: Question for those on Armour or those who have > been on Armour > > > OK > LOL > I just worked 24 hrs straight b/c of a snowstorm. Guest guest
I take Thyrolar, which is also made by Forest Labs that makes Armour. This situation is not new to this company. Guest guest
Crystal, I belong to the natural thyroid group and they were saying that there was a problem with the 3 and 4 grain tablets. Something about them disintegrating. It shouldn't be so difficult to get the meds we need. Very frustrating. I hope you do not run into this again. Guest guest
Crystal, Compounding pharmacists can make tablets, especially if they are making a timed release form. Capsules are just easier. Hand made is definitely more expensive, though. That is why compounding pharmacists usually make 2-3 times what the Walgreens type does.
