I also have a positive ANA (1:160), slightly elevated ESR and CRP was

also elevated (not sure number). I really feel like it is autoimmune.

I also have parotid gland issues and so they think it might be

Hi,

My daughter showed high eusinophils in her duodenum when she had an

endoscopy early in her diagnosis. I was under the impression this was a

sign of allergy as our recommendation was to see an allergist, which we

did, and she tested negative for everything. We have also found nothing

her diet or surroundings that seems to trigger an allergy of any sort.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what her count was so not sure I'm much

help.

Alice (dagny 7 JRA)

eosinophilia

Anyone deal with this? My daughters lab showed she had 25 on her

eosinophils with the normal range being 0 - 3. She does have dustmite

allergies, which we have dealt with. She takes claritin every day

because she is a rashy kid. No infection that I can find. She is

going to see an immunologist next month, but was curious if any of you

have gone through this.

Thanks, ' & a 11 jia/uveitis

Hi ,

What medicines does your daughter take? My son had a high eosinophil count a

few years ago, and no one knew why. It took several months, but he finally

ended up in the hospital with what everyone thought was pneumonia. It turned

out he had eosinophils in his lungs which were causing a lung inflammation.

The doctors thought it was caused by the methotrexate. I understand it is a

very rare complication, and I don¹t think having high eosinophils means that

you are going to get the lung inflammation. My son¹s eosinophils go higher

now, and although they watch it, he seems to be doing ok. You are right that

allergies can increase the eosinophils, so that may be the cause as well.

Good luck. (and Ezra, ten year old systemic)

Hi Donna,

It¡¯s a blood test. But it¡¯s very unusual, and you probably don¡¯t have it.

Ezra had fevers and fatigue and what looked like pneumonia on the x-ray.

Hope you feel better.

Thank you . She was on Methotrexate for almost two years, but she has been

on ivig infusions - only - for the last two years. The immunologist she is

seeing is also an allergist. I guess it is common in some autoimmune

conditions. The worry of every parent.....what else now? lol Hopefully it is

nothing.

I hope she can get off the prednisone, I think it's an awful drug too.

By the way, I only got this because I checked the bulk file. I don't

understand

why some people's mail doesn't come through all the time. It's very annoying.

her to understand better, also. You know how doctors can be when

explaining. Anyway, she is on Prednisone, which is causing all kinds

of other problems for her including diabetes. Supposedly there is

another medication out there but she does not qualify for it. It has

something to do with what her numbers are before she can qualify for

it. All I know is she is very sick and I do not understand why THAT

would not qualify her.

Anyway, thank you again. It was very helpful.

Hi wkapikorn,Could you please explain that diagnosis. I have seen that written also. Have you had a blood test done for eosinophilia? If so, what was the reading for eos there?Breda EOSINOPHILIA

Yesterday, I received my pathology report from my surgery a couple of weeks ago (3rd surgery) and the finding was: Chronic polypoid rhinosinusitis with marked eosinophilia. A new word for my vocabulary - "eosinophilia. "

An absolute eosinophil count is a blood test that measures the number of white blood cells called eosinophils. Eosinophils become active when you have certain allergic diseases, infections, and other medical conditions.

That definition comes directly from a medical explanation handout I received when I received some bloodwork a few years ago that showed a very high count of Eosinophils. Since that time, I have found that I always have a very high Eosinophil count. My ENT and Respiratory Specialist both explain that people with Samters typically stay in a viral state because even when we feel that we are without a sinus or lung infectoin, we may have a low-grade infection that stays present all the time. Not very comforting information, I know.

Hope this helps.

Eosinophils are a subset of white blood cells that multiply under

certain situations. If you want to see what they look like, and more :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eosinophil_granulocyte

Samter's is a disease involving notably the following cell types :

eosinophils, mast-cells and T-helper-2 lymphocytes.

Most nasal polyps are essentially made of eosinophils. So, having a high

eosinophil count is entirely consistent with Samter's.

It is good to be aware that, theoretically, this Samter-derived

eosinophilia could mask other eosinophilic states ; for instance, if you

had a parasitic worm, it would also shoot up the eosinophils, and you

would not see it because you would believe the high eosinophil count to

be entirely due to Samter's.
