Guest guest
Thank you Francesca, we are in agreement. There is a place for moderate CR with exercise and this is a plan many can get going on.kim
Guest guest
Dear Al and Warren: don't you think it might have done some good to point to the more moderate CR Support Group instead of always pointing out the extremists? There are many of us who don't " starve " ourselves and actually eat regularly. ANY calorie reduction (not necessarily extreme calorie reduction) is beneficial. on 1/11/2004 7:04 PM, old542000 at apater@... wrote: > Hi All, > > For a new media CR article, please see:
Guest guest
I am in agreement with the points Francesca makes. Her points are well taken. Treatment is one sided when the CR Support Group is ignored. Extremism makes news headlines. That may explain Newsweek's focus. I had no say at all about what Newsweek chose to write. I was only one of many whom Newsweek interviewed and quoted at: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/3927655/ My quotes appear at the very tail end. To be truthful, the CRSupportGroup was pointed out. Anne (who did the Newsweek coverage research) received a copy of the CRSupportGroup weblink from me. She also received a message posted to the CR Support Group. The old CR Society is currently undergoing an overhaul. Past days of myopic intolerance will die. A vision recently penned read this way for their Board of Directors to consider: --------------------------------------------------- Universal agreement [on CR styles] is impossible. There will be many viewpoints. All of them can be valid. Here is how to do it: Organize the CR Society into community forums (and into forum workgroups). Allow each forum to establish its vision of CR. Members subscribe to the forum of their choice. 100,000 people on CR can all be happy, and all can be happy together. Tolerance is a key. ---------------------------------------------------- And who will have the largest community? The moderates. Who will have the smallest community? The extremists. And who will get headlines? Probably the extremists!! That is why participation in the growing CRSupport group is so refreshing. Our appeal is much more universal and focused on success -- success in gradual steps. We take a moderate approach that works for everyone -- everyone who is genuinely sincere about health and longevity. -- Warren ================= On 11 Jan 2004, Francesca wrote: > > Dear Al and Warren: don't you think it might have done > some good to point to the more moderate CR Support Group > instead of always pointing out the extremists? Agreed. The CR Support Group was pointed out (per the above). But Newsweek editors chose the focus of their spotlight. There were howls of complaints in the CR Society itself. > There are many of us who don't " starve " ourselves and > actually eat regularly. Agreed. The Newsweek title " Starve Your Way to Health " is unfortunate. But the Newsweek Editors chose the title. They also chose whom they quoted. I was surprised to get any attention at all. My quotes at the tail end contradict both the article title and their main premise about always being hungry and starving. So why was I quoted? > ANY calorie reduction (not necessarily extreme calorie > reduction) is beneficial. Exactly. Unfortunately, moderation lacks the news headline drawing power that extremism attracts. Newsweek made a conscious decision to attract its readership in their feature on CR by focusing more on extremism. I lament with the rest of you: Moderation doesn't make headlines the way extremism " attracts flies to honey " . Newsweek used this honey to attract their readers.
