Guest guest
This is what happened to me too. I take Thyrolar, which is Forest Labs Synthetic form for Armour. I went into the drugstore to make sure my new part D covered it, and the drugstore looked it up on the computer and said that they had a message on there that it was not covered because of law. I called my insurance company, and they said that they would have to have my doctor fill out a fax form, so they needed his number, and then they would fax him the form for him to fill out, and then they would cover it. You might want to contact your insurance company by 'phone yourself (they're all very busy now, so try in the evening) and ask what you have to do for them to cove this medication. Roni Kate <dharma1968@...> wrote: Does anyone know what is going on with Armour Thyroid - I went to get my usual script of 180 and was told by the pharmacy that Armour no longer makes 180 tabs so they have to give me 2 - 90 tabs to take. Ok fine. Then come Jan 2008 after two years of my insurance covering this drug they stopped. What is going on. I have Medicare Part D with AARP but I notice Humana doesn't offer it either just synthroid and levothroid and levoxyl and levothyroxine sodium (aren't these all synthetic)? If any one knows of any programs to get help with the armour too - I'm in a fixed income. Thanks Kate --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
There was a recall on, I believe, one lot of the 3 and 4 grain tabs (maybe also 5 grain tabs, but I am not sure about that) of Armour due to the " binder " not keeping the pills bound together as they would have liked, that's all. I don't know if this affected Thyrolar - I only read the FDA report on the Armour recall, and it was a while ago. There was no issue with potency. 1 grain tabs were not recalled. I have always been able to get my one grain tabs, and I am on 11+ grains of Armour (it's easier for " me " to take all those little bitty pills at one time because they crunch up and melt under my tongue faster). Anyway, I would think most pharmacies should have no issue by now. Guest guest
I just changed Par D providers, and was told that I would have to pay for Thyrolar which is the synthetic form of Armour myself. When the drugstore put it onto the computer it came back not covered by law. Was a law passed that nobody knows about? Guest guest
How odd. No law as far as I know and I'm just up the pike from you. I'll give my compounding pharmacy guy a call in the morning to see if there anything up with thyroid meds. If there was any type of FDA apprival requirement, the med would still be available for sale during the approval process, and moreso if it was a thyroid med. That sort of thing is on the FDA website. Guest guest
how low is your income? usually it has to be at poverty level AND you can't have any insurance assistance like Medicare... these programs are for people who have no insurance and are at or near the poverty level in the US. Guest guest
I just a raise on my Soc. Sec. and probably will my supplemental income this year I have in not poverty level close to poverty level. Ususally my supplemental goes down every year because my insur. cost goes up. The only meds. I could get thru partners is singulair because either my meds. wasn't on there or there was an only $2 differenc & it would be cheaper just to pay the $2 than to go thru all of what you have to go thru to get it.. I drive 26 miles 2 times to get my singulair so I would have to do the same thing with the other & a $2 drop in price isn't worth it. What you have to do is ask your doctor to apply for an " exception " on the basis that you do not respond well or are allergic to the allowed generics. If they approve the exception, then your Thyrolar will be covered again. Chuck --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
I called the pharmacy back, and they finally did get the zolpidem approved. I can't afford to pay for the thyroid med on my own, do the genetic thyroid medications work(the one that is generic for Armour). I don't think there is a genetic for Thyrolar. Roni Chuck B <gumboyaya@...> wrote: Roni, " The Law is an ass. " at least as far as practicing medicine. Medicare only approves the one least expensive of the generics. Guest guest
well, it depends on the insurx co, and the number of hoops that we have to jump through in answering their questions. but, usually you have to include all of the medical records, including what medications you have tried and /or failed; any evidence based research that may support why you are requesting that drug or treatment. nancie Re: Re: armour thyroid help What kinds of information are they requesting that you have to write " a book " ? Guest guest
Qualitest thyroid is the generic for Armour (made by Time Caps I think). It's crap, smells like putrid flesh (they might have fixed the smell), and while mistakenly taking it for one week I became very hypO, after being non-symptomatic on the same dose of Armour. I had to fight with the pharmacy to get them to switch it back. After that I would tell any new pharmacies that I was allergic to one of the components/fillers in it so it was never pushed on me again. Guest guest
Thanks for that. I don't know if the girl in the doc's office is up to speed on everything, and said I'd have to pay for it myself beccause the numbers were normal. When I said they are supposed to be on medication, she got a bit huffy. I asked her not to fax anything back until I speak with the doctor Tuesday.
