Guest guest
, there is a huge difference between levothyroxine and Armour. Levothyroxine is a synthetic T4 drug, and Armour Thyroid is natural desiccated thyroid which has all the thyroid hormones (T4, T3, T2 T1, etc), plus calcitonin. I don't have a thyroid gland and was also on a T4 drug and nearly died, but after switching to Armour I started on road to health. There are a few people here who think a synthetic T4 drug is the bees knees, but in my opinion it is garbage...my opinion based on my own experience. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://www.armourthyroid.com Sam (thyroidless since 1990) > > Hi, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year and a half ago. Guest guest
There is a difference between levo and Armour. Levo is a synthetic T4 replacement. Armour is dissected pig thyroid and as gross as it may sound, it works miracles! Armour has T1, T2, T3, T4, and calitonin. Those are the same hormones that your thyroid makes! Visit www.stopthethyroidmadness.com -- New to group: Another increase in meds.... Hi, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year and a half ago. Since then my meds have been increased on four different occasions. This increase has not been because we can not find the right dosage, it is just that once the correct dosage is found and my levels are back to normal...another 4 months or so down the line I start to get severe symptoms, my levels test low, and then my meds are upped. Is this normal? Should I request a different treatment? Currently, I am prescribed levothroxin (100 mg), is there a differance between Armour and Levothroxin? Which is better or does it just depend on the person? Could this be a sign of something more severe? Any help would be greatly appreciated..... Guest guest
Welcome to the group ! First off, you must mean 100 mcg of levothyroxine .. 100 mg would kill you. It would be really great if you could post all of your labwork here ... we would be able to help you more then. Just ask your doctors office for copies of them if you don't have them already. Many of use here really believe in listening to ones symptoms ... how do YOU feel? Cold, gain weight easily, or hot, sweaty and shaky all the time? Also what kind of hypoT do you have? Hashi's I'm guessing because that is most common. It is normal in the titration phase to have to mess around with your dosages ... the important part is to try and feel as good as possible! Peace and looking forward to your response! --- <rbrimage@...> wrote: > Hi, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year and a > half ago. Guest guest
It depends on the person and the dose. Both Synthroid and Armour people gradually go up with their meds until the " right " dose is found. People are successful with both drug treatments and it really depends on which is the right fit for you. New to group: Another increase in meds.... Guest guest
Yes, you are right, it is 100 mcg of levothyroxine.... When my doctor placed me on this dosage and I retook my labs he said my numbers were at 0.1. So, he left me on this dosage...this was back in June. Today I got the call about my labs I retook yesterday and they were at 5.2, putting me now on the hyperthyroid end (I guess not by much, because the doctor was not concerned). But, here is my delima.....when I took the labs yesterday morning I did not take my medication and my numbers came out a little on the high end. When I asked what my numbers would have looked like if I had take my 100 mcg dosage of levothyroxine that morning I received no answer. So, if I had would this explain me getting so hot and sweaty, dizzy, and shaking. It has happened twice now, two days in a row and it seems to happen only 2 hours after I take my medication. Today I choose not to take my medicine and I have yet to have any symptoms. Bradin <ebradi3951@...> wrote: Welcome to the group ! Guest guest
hi 5.2 TSH is HYPOthyroid. you need more meds---maybe different med. http://www.armourthyroid.com Gracia Yes, you are right, it is 100 mcg of levothyroxine.... Guest guest
, You wrote: > ...Today I got the call about my labs I retook yesterday and they > were at 5.2, putting me now on the hyperthyroid end If that is TSH, it means you are HYPOThyroid, not hyperT. .... But, here is my > delima.....when I took the labs yesterday morning I did not take my > medication and my numbers came out a little on the high end. When I > asked what my numbers would have looked like if I had take my 100 mcg > dosage of levothyroxine that morning I received no answer.... Negligible effect. T4 has a biological half life of about a week, so a missed dose will not affect T4 levels. Further, TSH is very slow to respond. This will not make a difference. T3 is different. Guest guest
Honey, honey, honey lower TSH numbers (like 0) equals hyperthyroid and the higher ones like 3.3, 5, 8 equal hypOthyroid. You need a higher dose of levothyroxine or to switch to a different med (like armour, which I am taking and love). Also you should ask your doctor to test free T3 and free T4 because those are better tests. Peace and good luck, P.S. you should do some research and go to the stopthethyroidmadness.com website or something. > > Yes, you are right, it is 100 mcg of > levothyroxine.... > > When my doctor placed me on this dosage and I > retook my labs he said my numbers were at 0.1.
