Guest guest
I am conversing with someone who has been trying to get on Armour Thyroid for quite a while. She is extremely hypothyroid and quite ill. Her synthroid dose is continually being raised and is now at 900mcg, plus they are giving her weekly IV infusion of T4. She is getting worse and is quite myxedemic (extremely low " numbers " ). Still trying to get on Armour, her current doctor (who has prescribed Armour in the past) again told 'no' and it was suggested she go to a larger hospital for the same treatment. She is in a non-metropolitan area (in the infamous midwest goiter-belt) with few options for doctors, and on MedicAid. Opinions? Suggestions? Guest guest
Then again, I suggest she try a larger hospital? Will that be covered for her? Wow, what a sad state of affairs. Hopefully, we will all not have this problem in the future. It doesn't look good though. Guest guest
Sam, perhaps you could suggest that she try iodine and lugols to supplement her synthroid as armour users supplement their armour. Guest guest
I'm confused. Should I be supplementing my Armour? I think mine is working just fine. cw -- Re: Opinions, please Then again, I suggest she try a larger hospital? Will that be covered for her? Wow, what a sad state of affairs. Guest guest
She's in a remote area with unreliable transportation and is very low income. What I was wondering, tho, is the amount of synthroid she is on. I do believe the intend is to increase it past 1000mcg, and was thinking that was a bit of an insane amount. The higher the dose is raised, the worse she gets. Sam > > > > > > > > I am conversing with someone who has been trying to get on Armour > > > > Thyroid for quite a while. Guest guest
This sounds extensive. I would only know to tell you what you already know. adrenals, etc. She may have another issue besides being hypo. Poor girl. I pray she finds great health! She needs to get the book The Makers Diet by Jordan Rubin. Or The great Physicians RX by Jordan Rubin. Guest guest
I've just been speaking with her. She had been on Armour by the first dr, and was doing fine but, I believe, just needed an increase and her adrenals tested/treated. So he sent her to an endo who took her off Armour and put her on synthroid at ever increasing doses. The first doc is following endo's orders and now they want to send her to Mayo because she's getting worse and worse. And here I am thinking the dudes that are giving hre higher and higher doses of synthroid need to have their licenses pulled for gross insanity... Guest guest
Well, would Mayo be all that bad. It may be better than her not getting any help which it sounds like that might happen. Maybe she could talk the doctors at Mayo into giving her Armour and then the doctors that were treating her, would probably follow their recommendation. I'm just sayin' Venizia > > > > > > > > > > > > I am conversing with someone who has been trying to get on > > Armour > > > > > > Thyroid for quite a while. Guest guest
Yes, it would be all that bad...it's Mayo...it will be the " same " as she's now getting, but with more 'other stuff' added. You know how they treat hypothyroid people who are not properly treated...drugs and procedures up the ying-yang... She simply needs what " was " working, not more of what isn't working. Like where is the line is drawn between " treatment " and malpractice...sigh... Hmmm, maybe this can be approached from a different angle. Guest guest
Well, I think it's worth a try. She can refuse treatment if that is what she finds. Is she a person that could insist that they give her what she wants or is she one that is afraid to speak her mind to a doctor? Guest guest
for sure. I have heard horrible stories about Mayo. I wouldn't go there for nuthin'.
