I only take hydrocortisone and adreset for adrenal fatigue. I am not on

anything for thyroid. I had a saliva test done and the results of that are:

estradiol <0.5 range: 0.5-1.7

progesterone <5 12-100

ratio:Pg/E2 10L 100-500

Testosterone 29 16-55

DHEAS 3.6 2-23

Cortisol Morning 2.0L 3.7-9.5

Noon 1.0L 1.2-3.0

Evening 1.4 0.6-1.9

night 0.2 0.4-1.0

Due to this test the prescribed 5mg hydrocortisone morning and night, and

adreset which is a herbal supplement for the adrenal. I have been on this for

a month and I still do not feel better. They are tell me the thyroid test is

normal, so I must just be depressed and pushed more anti-depressants. I am

not depressed, I am exhausted. So I dont know what to do from here.

Are you medicated?

T3 uptake is a measure of the binding proteins. Having this low is a

GOOD thing if you are hypoT.

Your TSH should be compared to the range 0.3 to 3.0, but that makes it

high-normal, UNLESS you are taking meds.

Many labs still use that, but it's the old range. At one time it was

even higher, 5.5 and even 6.0. I suppose it depends on which

professional society you ask.

In late 2002, the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB)

issued new guidelines for the diagnosis and monitoring of thyroid

disease. In the guidelines, the NACB reported that the then current TSH

reference range was too wide and actually may include people with

thyroid disease. When screening with the more sensitive test was done,

which excluded people with thyroid disease, 95 percent of the population

tested actually had a TSH level between 0.4 and 2.5.

The NACB guidelines led to a recommendation in January 2003 by the

American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), calling for

doctors to " consider treatment for patients who test outside the

boundaries of a narrower margin based on a target TSH level of 0.3 to 3.0. "

Here are the recommendations of the American Society of Endocrinologists

and the National Academy of Clinical Biochemists:

yikes, this is a huge prob.

so when a person has many symptoms of thyroid/adrenal probs, the TSH test

supposedly rules it out, and we are on to other diseases.

it's institutional ignorance. this is what happened to my mother.

excuse me but my MD told me that she is an expert in thyroid diseases and she

uses armour! she- prudence Hall told me that the new upper limit is now back to

5.0 for the TSH. the mainstream medical profession is deluded in thinking there

is less hypo T out there.

BTW I am just the messenger- DO NOT KILL THE MESSENGER.

NANCIE

Re: newbee test results

That is not true and a terrible thing to say. The national endocrine

something or other something last year said that it was 3.3.

I am not on armour. They are telling me nothing is wrong. They said all my

test were normal. I did not know about the liver enzymes until I requested a

copy of my labs. I just recieved my order of Iodoral, so I will try that

until I can get an appointment. It like pulling teeth to even see a doctor

these

days. They did give me zocor to get my cholesterol down. I dont like taking

prescription meds, I would rather go with the natural approach but It was

pretty high. The only thing I am taking now is bio-identical hormones,

hydrocortisone for my adrenal (apperantly thats not working either), B- complex

vitamins

and a multi-vitamin, and vitamin C.

I have never had any liver problems, hepatitis, or gallbladder problems. Not

sure what is going on with that. I am calling another doctor in the morning.

Hi T-

I am a NP and I think you need to either see another provider and/or have them

run your labs again. when I have a patient that has those results- I always

re-run the labs to make sure it was not lab error.

as far the results go:

thyroid: you need to increase your armour dose. what dose are you on? I would

increase it by only an 1/8 to a 1/4 grain increase and hold it there for at

least 4 weeks [ but I am conservative with dosing increases]

Chemistry panel:

your liver functions are increased. which is a cause of concern. do you have

history of liver problems? hepatitis? gall bladder disease?

just looking at those numbers I am concerned about how your liver is

functioning and that is why I would repeat the test.

your cholesterol and Triglycerides are very high and need to be addressed

asap. you could be a heart attack waiting to happen. but again I would re-run

the tests to rule out lab error.

I think you need to see a natural medicine provider or a very good herbalist

for some cholesterol lowering medicine; eat lots of oatmeal; take omega-3 fatty

acids; garlic; also acupuncture is very effective in these cases along with

Chinese herbs; and lots of water.

nancie

hi all, Chuck asked for test results, so here they are.

are you menopausal?? because the other cholesterol results, thyroid results

could be caused by menopause. I frequently see that in my patients who are

menopausal. although the elevated liver enzymes are another story. are going to

get them repeated??

also you should check out this web site

while I don't agree with everything they say there, the majority I do.

nancie.

ps. I have HYPO T and I have premature menopause from chemo; and I take armour,

I currently take 2.75 grains but I am still titrating upwards- just very slowly

at 1/8 increases as advised by my MD, prudence hall; and holding for 6 weeks

each dose increase. I am doing it that slow because I have lupus/sle which is an

auto-immune multi-organ disease.

Testosterone 29 16-55

Cortisol Morning 2.0L 3.7-9.5

Noon 1.0L 1.2-3.0

Evening 1.4 0.6-1.9

night 0.2 0.4-1.0

Due to this test the prescribed 5mg hydrocortisone morning and night, and

adreset which is a herbal supplement for the adrenal. I have been on this for
