Hi Michele and welcome to the group.

As for the discrepancy in your two tests, it could be something as

simple as a error. If you do not have confidence in this doctor I

think a new doctor is in order. Or you could ask him to run the test

again. See what two out of three gives you.

Many on this list choose to take Armour thyroid because it works for

us. If you are taking 100mcg of levothyroxine and are still feeling

bad, you may want to make a change in meds. You can find a listing of

doctors that prescribe Armour. I believe it is at Shoman's

website at about.com where you can find a list. I do not remember if

stopthethyroidmaddness.com has a listing. Maybe someone on the list

will know for sure. Where are you located? In the US?

I took synthroid for over 20yrs and never felt good. I changed to

Armour and I am amazed at how much better I feel and I lost over 10#,

although I should lose more and do seem to be able to. Feeling this

much better though makes me feel frustrated for listening to the

doctors I saw all those years. I didn't have this group available to

me then. I have learned SO much here.

Good luck to you. You are your best advocate. Take charge of your own

health. Do what you think will be best for you.

If you have Hashimoto's then the output of you thyroid can vary all over

the place, and constantly change from time to time. So it's a very

difficult target for you and your doctor to hit. When your thyroid's

output is high you shouldn't need so much Synthroid, and when it is low

you may need more. However, I would think your doctor would know if you

have Hashi's; and should have told you. If a complete thyroid panel was

run [including tests for Hashi's] then those results should tell if you

have Hashi's or not. If you don't know then you should ask your doctor;

and it might be a good idea to get your results and post them here so

whoever gives you advice has the best info available.

Luck,

Since it is so well known that with Hashimoto's the output of your

thyroid can vary a lot [which changes the quantity of supplement needed]

it seems strange he did not know that. I suspect it is a communication

problem.

I was wondering the same thing and Michele. What doctor would

not know that with Hashi's that could be why the numbers could be so

different from time to time. I think a new doctor is in order Michele.

Michele,

Find another doctor. Look on the websites that were posted for you. I

went to three doctors before I found one that would work with me.
