Guest guest
Shomon is not generally supportive of iodine. You can find some of her comments here: Links > How Iodine Affects the Body > Thyroid > The other point of view People seem to disagree on whether iodine is recommended for people with Hashimoto's. Brownstein's point of view has changed considerably in the past few years, and he now recommends it. You can find two past emails on Brownstein's evolving point of view here: Links > How Iodine Affects the Body > Thyroid Zoe Re: Re: Intro & Iodine Tinctures, also Hashimoto's Thanks Sharon for your response. I will look into this some more. I have a couple of Shomon's books that I bought when I was diagnosed...but I haven't read them because quite frankly I was turned off by some of the nutritional advice that she was giving. But I probably need to go back and pick through what works and what doesn't. It's just such a daunting subject! lolThanks again, On 2/16/06, sharflin <sharflin@...> wrote: Hi ,I don't have any research to back this up but in the back of my head I have this impression that people with Hashimoto's don't do as well with iodine. I first got this idea from Shomon, who writes a thyroid column on about.com and has Hashimoto's. You may want to go slow with it and/or look into it further. I don't recall Hashimoto's in particular coming up on this list before. Again, I look forward to hearing other opinions on Hashimoto's and iodine. Guest guest
Guy E. Abraham also seems supportive of iodoral plus magnesium (between 800-1,200 mg/day)for Hashimoto's as well as autoimmune thyroiditis in general see: Links, Iodine Information, Major People in Iodine Field, Dr. Guy Abraham, The Safe and Effective Implementation of Orthoiodosupplementation In Medical Practice > Hi , > > > I don't have any research to back this up but in the back of my head I > have this impression that people with Hashimoto's don't do as well > with iodine. Guest guest
Hi Amy! You will find a lot of disagreement here also. I do take selenium. I take 200mcg daily. I do not take iodine or zinc; iodine because of the controversy and still not convinced it if the thing to do for Hashi folks and zinc, no reason. Just know that if you take zinc you also need to be aware of your copper also. Venizia > > There seems to be disagreement about whether you should take iodine > supplements if you have Hashimoto's. Guest guest
your doc sounds very rare. have you read the history of iodine posted on this group by Sam? maybe you can search for it. Iodoral has been a huge huge part of my wellness--now I am taking 100mg per day. It takes some skill to use it properly and companion nutrients are helpful. Allopathic medicine just doesn't use it b/c it doesn't come from big pharma. http://www.optimox.com click on research Gracia There seems to be disagreement about whether you should take iodine supplements if you have Hashimoto's. My doc said to take iodine, selenium and zinc along with Armour. I haven't started iodine because of the controversy. What do you guys think? What do you guys think? Depends on how much your doctor is recommending. Just above the RDA is probably not going provoke the condition. If it is more, I would try a little a day or two before you test for TPO and see. If iodine is going to trigger or accelerate the attack, you would know right away from the test. Also, you can get too much selenium and zinc. As I recall the threshold for problems was around 200 mcg per day with 400 mcg definitely toxic for Se. RDA is only around 55 mcg. Guest guest
-Hi, Amy! I haven't written the group for a long time, though I read the responses of others. Can you or someone else tell me what foods have copper in them, so I know what to avoid? Thanks, Ayers-- In hypothyroidism , " venizia1948 " <nelsonck@...> wrote: > > Hi Amy! > > You will find a lot of disagreement here also. I do take selenium. I > take 200mcg daily. Guest guest
I was searching the internet to find a supplement list to take with Hashimoto's. The link is: http://thyroid-disorders.suite101.com/article.cfm/iodine_and_hashimotos_thyroidi\ tis There information that said, " on the other hand, people with Hashimoto's disease often develop a goitre that can be aggravated by supplementing with additional iodine, especially in large doses. So now I don't know if I should just stop taking Iodoral and ATP CoFActor.
