Guest guest
, Allow me to ³take this one² for a moment. Matt, I think it¹s our personalities actually that have made us unwell to begin with. Stress, overwork, lack of downtime, poor eating habits, rushing, etc. lead to overall illness of mind, body and spirit and before we know it we are imprisoned by both - I recently found out my Adrenal Glands are totally burned out almost at ground 0. (which is not good) SO I went on something called the Schwarzbein program and threw in some Yoga and TCM and lately I feel better than I did in my 30¹s ‹ I am 50, by the way. So, while for some it takes a very high-end life changing event to get them to change, for me it was realizing that my two kids have only me in this entire world they are 20 and 14 since I basically raised them alone. I am remarried now but am their only living blood relative ‹ how scary is THAT? (I actually had the life-changing event years ago when my daughter at 10 went thru brain and spinal surgeries but I was so in shock and shut down emotionally I did not realize what it had done to my overall health until recently and just when I thought things were ³cool² that¹s when I found out my adrenal glands shut down from all that stress.) Which caused the hypoT, the high cholesterol, etc. So I had to get on the stick, the ball, the stickball, whatever and get myself into healing mode. That started for me in June of this year for me and is progressing much better than I had hoped for or imagined. I do have a ³bit² of stubborn-ness and I am opinioned as most of us are, but I do listen and I do take heed but I don¹t take the temper tantrums to heart any longer. And I also keep trying when someone does not get my point not to change their mind, but just to make sure they ³get² what I was saying and then I move on. Unless of course, they want to argure, then I can¹t turn that opportunity down! ;-) Sue On 9/19/08 10:57 PM, " Comerford " <cumocumocumo@...> wrote: > > > > You raise an interesting point though . Guest guest
So do you take anything for your adrenal issues? The adrenal is what keyed me off on the thyroid as i was having some severe panic and anxiety attacks out of nowhere..I know constant stress ate away at my adrenal hormone supply and though i never actually had that part checked i am sure that it was very low You have an interesting story. I can understand why your adrenal supply was non existent with all of that going on. > > > > You raise an interesting point though . Guest guest
Hi Matt, Yes, let me clarify. I started meds for the HypoT and Hashimotos back in 2002 but paid no heed to anything else going on. After 2005/2006 when I came out of my " shock " that's when I started feeling " werid. " I would have panic-like attacks, anxiety, intermittant insonmnia, depression, got the high cholesterol, unexplained weight gain, etc. Of course all docs say: tranquilizers and antidepressants. Yeah, I tried that. Not happy with it. I kept researching and getting tests like hair analysis, saliva, blood and urine, quizzes, anything I could do to find out what had changed in me. And then I realized: everything. I had stopped eating properly, sleeping properly, exercising enough, resting enough, and I was not treating my adrenals. I was using sugar and caffeine. I do take two things for my adrenals and this is after about about 2 years of intensive testing, reading, consulitng with naturopaths, nutritionists, homeopaths, and medical doctors, along with boards like this, friends, and MD's. I take Ashwagandah and Rehmania. 1/2 teaspoon of each per day. They are a liquid solution I put in juice or decaf coffee. They are herbs that help the body deal with stress. If you google them you will find TONS of good stuff about them and almost nothing " bad " or none at all. I have had no ill side effects and I now deal with things much better, I cut back my work hours, I joined a gym, do the Yoga and eat Organic foods. I cut out wheat as well -- and am working on the sugar -- I still get those cravings but Schwazbein says that's totally normal when you are healing your adrenals which can take 1 to 2 years depending on how much they are damaged. Usually I go with fruit but sometimes I just have to have chocolate... For shame (!) LOL. All in all, I can say of all the things I tried and all the books I read, the Ashwagandah and Rehmania have worked the best for me. There are many who take other stuff and that works very well for them -- but as of right now I can say I have almost no complaints - even the panic and anxiety has lessened and become very manageable with little Rx intervention. The sad part in all this is that the thyroid is not even supposed to be treated until we heal the adrenals but doctors don't check that first -- and by the time we find that out -- they are about shot. Thyroid meds with burned out adrenals are basically toxic to the adrenals -they increase or trigger adrenaline which is the last thing burned out adrenals need. I can already tell my thyroid is doing better -- I have had to cut back on my meds already in just a few months. The ashwagandah also helps the body convert t4 to t3 which was what I was always low in and supplemented with t3, aka, cytomel but no longer need to do that to get the warmth and energy I once did. It's a long process and we have to be patient, cautious in what we do take and mindful that once we do heal, not to back slide and think we can get away with killing ourselves again. From 2005/2006 during the year of surgeries for my little girl, and all the week-long hospitals stays and all the tests and stressors of waiting for her to heal, I basically lived on caffiene and adrenaline. Sleep was not an option nor was nutrition. I also run my own business so I was working 10-12 hours days as well and often bedside at the hospital while she slept. I have since learned enough is enough and instead of prioritizing my schedule, I now schedule my priorities. It's all a learning process and all I can say is do what works for you and not just because someone else -- doctor or layman, insists it's what you need.
