Guest guest
Gracia, I have read the Cortef patient flyer and it would strongly suggest that you are the one who is misinformed. BTW, did you know that your own natural cortisol levels can make you unwell? Panic attacks, palpitations, surges in blood pressure, increased sweating and exhaustion among a whole host of other things? See this site where you can find info cited below as well as other warnings about the use of Cortef: http://www.drugs.com/mtm/cortef.html Hydrocortisone side effects Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: * problems with your vision; * swelling, rapid weight gain, feeling short of breath; * severe depression, unusual thoughts or behavior, seizure (convulsions); * bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood; * pancreatitis (severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate); * low potassium (confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination <http://www.drugs.com/mtm/cortef.html#> , leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling); or * dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in your ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, uneven heartbeats, seizure). Less serious side effects may include: * sleep problems (insomnia), mood changes; * acne, dry skin <http://www.drugs.com/mtm/cortef.html#> , thinning skin, bruising or discoloration; * slow wound healing; * increased sweating; * headache, dizziness, spinning sensation; * nausea, stomach pain, bloating; or * changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your arms, legs, face, neck, breasts, and waist). This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect. Re: Re: Newbee Roni please this is misinformation b/c you are confusing low dose bioidentical cortisol (that your body makes BTW) with high doses of synthetic steroids. you yourself will never be well until you take hydrocortisone. http://www.drlam. <http://www.drlam.com> com read Safe Uses of Cortisol by Jefferies MD Gracia I'm sorry for your problems. I have FMS as well as hypothyroid, and it's possible that you have it too, or CFS. The one thing I want to tell you is that you should be aware that hydrocortisone is a horrible drug that is vicious in its side effects. Another thing is that the side effects are cumulative, so you don't have to be on very high doses to have these awful side effects. Please do some research on several different sites and check this out. I was given this drug many times for bronchitis and asthma, and I had no idea of what it does. I will never take it again. Good luck and I hope your new doctor will help you. Roni Recent Activity a.. 13New Members Visit Your Group Get cancer support Connect w/ others find help & share Health Looking for Love? Guest guest
Now with all these side effects, who would want to take it. This is why I would rather try to find an alternative than take meds. Gracia how many of these side effects do you get. I would find that interesting to know, if you don't mind telling me. Guest guest
Hmmm, being a member of the thyroid groups for years, and being aware of many many people taking Cortef, not a lot of people have reported having any of those side effects. Heck, I took Cortef for a while and had absolutely none of those side effects. I found I actually needed something with more " oomph " and switched to time release prednisoLone, taking it for approx 2 years with no ill effects. Now there's one thing that needs to be addressd if low, and that is aldosterone. Low aldosterone can actually mimic some symptoms of low cortisol. Interesting, huh? I suspect if someone has weak adrenals and is having difficulties with supplementing cortisol/Cortef/HC, they they investigate their aldosterone by blood testing aldosterone/renin. By the way, pretty much almost any drug insert will list all possible side effects no matter how rare-ly they occur. Heck, even desiccated thyroid and the synthetic thyroid drugs are tagged together on both drugs.com and rxlist.com with the same side effects, however desiccated thyroid does not cause many of the side effetcs listed other than those of over dose. For more info on adrenals, et al, please check out www.tuberose.com then click on " articles " and scroll to theadrenal article. It's a hefty, but worthy read. Guest guest
I am new to this group but felt I had to speak up on this topic. I had nearly every one of those symptoms for over a year. After treating my thyroid for a year & a half I finally did the saliva test & found that I was very low in cortisol. My BP had gone up very high. I finally started on 25 mg of cortisol & now every one of those symptoms are gone. I am finally cool after being HOT,HOT, HOT for 18 months. My BP is back down to 125/70. This is just with a month on HC. Gale > > > > Gracia, I have read the Cortef patient flyer and it would strongly > suggest > > that you are the one who is misinformed. Guest guest
there are NO side effects from bioidentical hormones. they are identical to what the body uses. there is no need to be confused about cortef. read Safe Uses of Cortisol by Jefferies MD. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com has info on adrenals. Gracia Now with all these side effects, who would want to take it. This is why I would rather try to find an alternative than take meds. Gracia how many of these side effects do you get.
