The study was valid; it was Abraham's interpretation that was wrong. The

paper said that the daily average consumption of kelp was 4.6 g.

However, this was wet kelp. The iodine content of kelp is listed as

0.3%, but that is for dried kelp. Abraham took 4.6 g x 0.3% to get 13.8

mg of iodine per day, when the real value is less than 0.5 mg.

That's one of the reasons I hate to try to research anything that

Abraham, Flechas or Brownstein write. You never know when you've

getting good data or bogus data. In the one paper I recently mentioned

Abraham repeatedly refers to the high consumption of iodine by the

Japanese; and he then cites the Nagataki, S., Shizume, K., Nakao, K

paper as an authoritative source.
