Bonnie,

PubMed lists a lot of citations that are not from peer-reviewed

(archival) publications. The fact that they list papers that Abraham and

Brownstein co-authored is not surprising. My request was for a single

peer-reviewed study that shows that iodine doses above 3 mg per day have

more benefits than dangers. All the peer reviewed papers by Abraham were

in obstetrics and sex hormones, not iodine. I did not see any peer

reviewed papers by Brownstein, and that definitely includes his iodine

books.

You don't need Brownstein to tell you why you need iodine and why you

can't live without it. There are thousands of credible reports that do

exactly that. They also establish how much you need, which turns out to

be about 150 mcg per day [MOL]. There is one heck of a lot of research

behind that number.

Brownstein recommends 50,000 to 100,000 mcg per day. There is not one

single credible source to support such a recommendation. There has

AFAIK never in the entire history of mankind been an environment in

which a person would have typically naturally ingested that much

iodine. So the question arises as to why we need it if we have never

had it. Quite simply humans would never have appeared if we needed

several thousand times the present quantity of _ANY_ material.

I heard we have about 2600 members here. If that is correct and about

2% or 3% of patients suffer ill effects from large doses of iodine and

everyone on the list took it then several dozen people would have

negative effects. Would anyone die? No one knows.

What typically happens is some percentage of patients who take large

doses report a long list of ailments as a result. If they report these

negative results on an " iodine " list they are promptly assured that they

do not have a negative reaction to iodine but rather are having a

bromide detox reaction. BUT: There are hundreds/thousands of credible

reports documenting the ill effects of excessive doses of iodine and

ZERO credible reports documenting a bromide detox reaction.
