Guest guest
Hi, I am usually a stressed person but before my first excaerbation I had just had a baby that was colic and my husband decided that he did not want to be a dad and I was working ( the baby was just about a year old) where there was alot of stress and I did not like my boss very much. But I must say that is the only major attack that I have had and that is when they diagnosed me. Howevere when I was 17 I had mono and strep throat and was sick for the entire summer ( lost 50 pounds ) and I had an abussive boyfriend at the time and I remember going to the Dr with numbness and they thought it was just due to the rapid and dramatic weight loss. But who really knows. Jen
Guest guest
Right now I am trying to blame mine on the Atkins diet and a very high level of stress when mine started. Big changes that I had in my life for about 4 months before MS appeared. Gallagher
Guest guest
Hi-- This question (effect of stressful events) is also relevant in cancer. Many people describe getting a tumor following a year of prolonged stress and/or unhappiness. My guess is that the effect comes through the immune system, since stress is known to weaken the immune system. Does that suggest that MS has a viral or bacterial basis? S. Guest guest
Stress creates higher levels of a cytokine called IL-6. IL-6 is a growth factor for some cancers like multiple myeloma which is what my wife has. Perhaps it affects other cancerous cells in the same way. Guest guest
> Crayfish, > Is it just lack of saliva in the mouth,or are all the mucus membranes, > like eyes and nasal passages, etc, dry? > B. Well, the interesting thing is that my eyes were getting more sensitive to my contacts over the months, also my nasal passages but I wasn't putting it together. At the same time I had what I thought was thirst but in the end I realized I wasn't drinking b/c I was thirsty, I was drinking b/c my tongue was dry and I thought that was thirst which might explain why the florinef Dr. Rind prescribed for me wasn't working. It wasn't until I read in my dentist's book that people with a bad thyroid dry up essentially and then everything clicked.
Guest guest
have you tried sea salt/seawater? They tend to increase digestive secretions of all kinds. As far a thyroid issue goes, I don't know, but I managed to accidentally lose 40 lbs while eating a lot of coconut a couple of years back. I swear by coconut and coconut oil. But that's just me. > > > Crayfish, > > Is it just lack of saliva in the mouth,or are all the mucus > membranes, > > like eyes and nasal passages, etc, dry? > > B. > Well, the interesting thing is that my eyes were getting more > sensitive to my contacts over the months, also my nasal passages but I > wasn't putting it together. Guest guest
Jane, > Please feel free to make suggestions as you see fit. Here are my thoughts: First of all, your health issue is your arhythmia, not your cholesterol. Lowering your cholesterol for the sake of lowering your cholesterol is a completely useless exercise that is likely to do more harm than good. Second, the fact that you feel much better indicates that the changes you made are helping you. There are two possibilities: 1) those changes are facilitating a detox that will help you feel much healthier as a temporary measure or 2) they have brought your diet closer to your personal, ideal diet. You can't really make an assumption of which right now except to keep doing what you are doing as long as you feel like you are reaping tangible benefits from it. In that vein, try the coconut oil, but start off small and work up your dose gradually, and see if it makes you feel better, worse, or neutral. Go primarily by that. Now, as to your arhythmia, there are probably many causes and I certainly don't know them all. However I have read in the past that diets deficient in essential fatty acids can be a problem. So make sure you are getting your long-chain omega-3s from cod liver oil and/or fatty fish, and make sure you are getting some arachidonic acid from animal fat and either some DGLA from organ meats or a small amount of n-6s from nuts, seeds, or grains (the organ meats would be better than the latter probably). The most likely to cause a problem would probably be a deficiency of the omega-3s rather than the others. When you go back to your doctor, go by the EKG. If that improves, and your cholesterol goes down, great! But if that improves and your cholesterol goes up or stays the same, it's just as great. The cholesterol may be an indicator that something's wrong, or it may reflect the fact that you need the cholesterol. As women age they live longer and have better bones if their cholesterol is higher. You can poison yourself to lower it if you want, but as long as your heart is healthy, you're doing fine without the poison. Of course, I have no qualifications or certifications to give out advice, so just take these as my thoughts for what they are worth. Chris -- Dioxins in Animal Foods: A Case For Vegetarianism? Guest guest
There are 20-30 brands out there, and a new one comes out every 1-3 months. Ask around, or try different ones. Always go for virgin, non-expeller-pressed, if you can. > > > These days I will eat coconut oil together with fresh coconut, or > > with some sea salt, or both. It works to keep my weight down. Guest guest
Then perhaps I should reword my query....could those who are currently using coconut oil please tell me they brand that they use and why. Guest guest
I have used Tropical Traditions, coconutoilonline, and now I have another one from Wilderness Family. I like the Wilderness Family and the coconutoilonline the best. They are very fresh tasting and even have bits of coconut in it. I hear Mexicoorganic is good but have not tried it as the last time I ordered it got 5 gallons. I also know that Mountain Rose herbs has some and it is very reasonable. Hope this helps, Allyn Re: Re: Important question Then perhaps I should reword my query....could those who are currently using coconut oil please tell me they brand that they use and why. This is a lamely unresearched response, but: I'm using Nutiva right now, becuase Suze said it's her current favorite and I was hoping she may have done her homework on it. LOL. Also, it is sold in a store near me so I don't have the money to save up for bulk, and it tastes quite good. My long-time favorite has been QFI, though it's a little pricey. I've also used coconutoilonline, but TT is less expensive for me through my co-op. I've heard lots of good thing about Mtn. Rose Herbs virgin coconut oil and it's a great price! www.mountainroseherbs.com Look under carrier oils. Guest guest
You might want to try a juice fast. A juice fast plus coconut oil will really knock the weight off. ------------>Can you do this while breastfeeding?

The most sensitive test is a stool test for IgA. Even if you haven't been eating gluten for a year or two, the IgA stool test might pick it up. http://www.enterolab.com/StaticPages/EarlyDiagnosis.htm Chris -- Dioxins in Animal Foods: A Case For Vegetarianism? Guest guest
you should not try to lose weight while pregnant and doing a juice fast also would not supply the necessary nutrients to the fetus such as protien, etc. Best to wait until you are done breastfeeding although if you eat good at that time you should drop the weight naturally.
