How's that for a combination of topics?

I received a diagnosis of MS in Fall 2003. The local MS clinic wants me

on one of the ABC drugs. For a variety of reasons (I'm not convinced

they don't do more harm than good, I also have a needle phobia), I

don't think that's a good idea. I want to try Low Dose Naltrexone. I

asked my neurologist about it. (he isn't associated with the MS

clinic). He hadn't heard of it. I gave him print outs from

http://www.low dose naltrexone.org/ he is going to do some of his own

research & then talk about prescribing it. He wasn't comfortable

writing a prescription for something he knew nothing about.

Does anyone have any additional pointers for info that might be helpful

for me to give to my neurologist?

Then the extra complication is my thyroid. My brother had thyroid

cancer 13 years ago. He had it removed & he's been fine ever since.

With all of the MRIs I had with diagnosing the MS, they found a lump in

my throat that turned out to be thyroid cancer. I had it removed in

December. Now I'm on thyroid replacement.

I know this is all part of the endocrine system which affects the

immune system which is what LDN is supposed to help.

Is there anyone on this list who is taking LDN with either thyroid

problems or no thyroid? I'm wondering about any potential interaction

between LDN & the thyroid replacement. I see my endocrinologist next

week & I'll ask him the same thing.

Me too (needle phobia), and I've been fighting my neurologist for

years about the abc drugs.. I refuse to take them because I'm not

convinced they would do me any good at all.

Good :) I've been taking it since August with good results :)

Not really, but good luck with that. I ended up calling Dr. Bihari

in NYC for my prescription.. my sister in California did the same,

and the pharmacy in NY mails the drug to her just like they do for me

here in upstate NY.

I take Levoxyl for low thyroid, and Dr. Bihari told me that was no

problem.

Take care,

Janis

I have been on shythroid for over a year (before they found the MS) and we are considering stopping it, my Doc thinks that the symptoms of thyroid trouble may have been MS so more testing and we will see.

Anyone else have treatment and diagnosed disorders that turned oout to be MS?

Blessings,

Zil

I too have seen a Dr. about my back spasms, they would stop all my bending or twisting while at work. Most people that hadn't known me for years thought I was a hypochondriac or to say the least lazy. I found spasm halt at the grocery store ( I think it's a generic Robaxacet) and it worked as well as any expensive drug. My homeopathic practitioner claims that ever since two years after the Chernobyl nuclear accident most peoples thyroids are not working up to par and those of us with a compromised imunne (sp)system should get our thyroids reactivated. Since starting ldn. I have not had any spasms in my back but I still have tonic spasticity in my left leg, especially when I get up after sitting and try to move too fast, this would be a little faster than a turtle crawling on a cold day. Reg.

Yash,

My Dr. substituted Armour Thyroid (definitely a prescription item, but a

BETTER QUALITY) for Levoxyl. That is all. That I also take an adrenal

cortex compound is beside the point. There is NO OVER THE COUNTER THYROID

MEDS being discussed here.

Hi Ann,

> Hi Janis, My name is MNary nd I have a thyroid problem and I'm

on a thyroid medicine symmatrel is the name of it and I am also on LDN

and my doctor is suppose to do a blood test on me next week when I go

back to him so we'll see how it comes out. Good luck to you. Ann

I've taken symmatrel, but that's the name of non-generic Amantadine,

right? It's normally used to fight the flu, and for Parkinson's and

MS patients, as well. Is that the same one you mean?

Anyway, I hope all goes well with your blood test :)

Take care,

Janis

I think that's great.. I don't feel like the levoxyl is helping me

much.. I still have incredible depression most of the time. If it

weren't for my husband, I'd probably hide under the rug most days

<grin>. I think I will check out the holistic doc after all.. it

sounds very interesting!
