Guest guest
Thanks. You have to wonder why a drug company would make 4 and 5 grain tabs if they would state that the maximum dose is 3 grains.... Doesn't make sense. Which just proves that the 3 grain that and chuck keep mentioning is just a recommended dose NOT the maximum dose. I am a provider and I know what the drug insert says- so I could never understand why they would keep saying that, that is what forest pharm says- when it isn't true at all and clearly shown by the larger doses in the pills ... Guest guest
Some people can't take armour no matter how much or little they take. I was find on 120 and that is well below what you call the minimum. Now I am on 90 every day and 15 added to take every other day and now I can exercise again and not feel exhausted and seem to be adjusting fine. I will know more about it when I go back for my tests. I do feel that I may have to go back on the 120, but my body could not do well on anything above that. I don't like the idea of taking more of a drug, sometimes I wonder if we are becoming too dependent on meds and not letting our bodies really do the job and incorporating other things, into our life like exercise, dietary changes, and meditation. We that fails than yes try to up your dosage or change meds, but to keep saying that we should only take one kind of thyroid meds is wrong and discouraging to others who want help with their problems. Betty Re: Re: Weight gain on Compounded Time Released T3? p.s I think the minimum dose of Armour is 3 grains or 180mg. Gracia No, I felt like crap on armour because my body does not like the pig thryoid hormone. I tried it 3 times over a two year period because everyone on another board said it was superior. I gave it all I had, Gracia I was up to 2.25 grains more than my levo/cyto combo I tried armour with levo, armour alone, etc. And every time I introduced Armour my joints ached, my stomach bloated up and I felt like crap. It¹s simply not for me. Sue
Guest guest
Their is nothing wrong with her opinions, but she needs to change how she talks to people who don't use armour. Our Docs are not all quacks and just because we are on somthing else we should not be treated if we are stupid. Guest guest
That is a good website if you take armour or what to know more about it, but it is not the only or best info when treating hypothryoidism. It is only one sided. Even Shoman who advocates the t4 and t3 drug does not take armour, she takes thyrolar. Guest guest
We should also remember that taking too much, just like taking too little of any thryoid drug can damage our bodies. That is what I believe was going to happen if I tried to keep taking the 180 armour. Guest guest
I agree with you there. I have called them several times to ask for advice on the armour and just don't know too much. I got more info from the folks at synthroid when I was on it. Guest guest
If you have the book by Shoman and go to page 68 shes says she takes thyrolar. It seems she has two websites and one says in 2006 she was on armour and the other site says she was taking thyrolar like the book, but I did not see a date. Guest guest
Schwarzbein also recommends not taking pre-set t4/t3 ratio replacement hormones such as Armour. Guest guest
It's an intentional exaggeration [hyperbole] of the positions taken here WRT not only Armour but other substances as well. For it to work there must be some element of fact hidden under the exaggeration. Sorry it didn't work for you, but as you've read a lot of posts here you cannot deny its validity... Here's another example of my warped sense of humor: " My creation myth is better than your creation myth " . Guest guest
I made no criticism of off label use. My objection is to statements recommending use of a product that far exceeds the manufacturer's recommendation by someone who is not a medical practitioner without also including the manufacturer's recommendation. There is a huge difference. Some of the " prescriptions " that are handed out willy-nillie on this list could IMHO be harmful or fatal to some people. So what is YOUR best guess as to why Forest Pharmaceuticals recommends a maximum dose of 3 grains? > - > There are numerous natural medicine physicians and providers all over the > world that don't follow Forrest pharm's recommendations. Guest guest
I misunderstood other posts if they have reference only to the PDF from Forest. It would be more accurate to state that the maximum dose that I find mentioned on their web site is 180 mg. In addition the maximum dose I can find listed on Armourthyroid.com [ " http://www.armourthyroid.com/con_faqs.aspx " ] is 180 mg. In reading some of the material I see two more reasons Forest might want to suggest a less than maximum dose. One is that some people have apparently used it for obesity control in otherwise healthy people and this is not the purpose of the medication. Another possible reason is that there are potential interactions with a number of other medications and conditions which might cause increased difficulties in larger doses. If I have understood the two sites mentioned above then 3 grains is equivalent to 300 mcg of Synthroid; and provides more than the normal levels of T3 and T4 for almost everyone. I am somewhat at a loss as to why we should need to take more T3 or T4 than a healthy body produces. IMHO; YMMV... > I did check the PDF that Forest has for dosing info, this is what they > say exactly " Most patients require 60 to 120mg/day.
