Guest guest
Hi Rosetta, I am so sorry to hear that Dakota is having such a difficult time. We were enjoying a nice flare-free periord ourselves for about 5 months. After such a long time of everything being normal you start to get use to it and enjoy it. And then bam all familiar aches and pains of jra resurface and there certainly is that time of sadness. My daughter is also in a flare. Its been about a week now and I was hoping that it was just related to the weather change and that she would start to improve. So far she is just having more and more joint pain. I am going to call her doctor today and see if we might try crutches. She is having severe knee, ankle and wrist pain. I thought maybe if it would lessen some she could use crutches to get around at school. Well I hope things get better for Dakota soon. My youngest sister just adopted a little boy a month ago. We have been praying that God would bless her with a child for several years now. They named him Dakota! :-)- (Aundrea age 9 systemic) -- In , " orwranglerbabe2002 " <orwranglerbabe2002@y...> wrote: > > hello everyone it has been a while since we have posted and i thought > i might share some of our ups and downs . cody had been doing really > well we thought that we might have this thing kicked in the butt . but > boy have we been wrong. he would have about four months that he would > do really well then have a flare then be better and flare again well > he has had two bad flares and is having one right now in the last four > months . his fever has hit 105 once today and had been round 101 to > 104 most of the day. he has slept most of his day . rhuemy says that > we are going to try new meds now cause every time we have tried to > come off the prelone he flares so we are going to have to try > somethoing else/ i just about started crying as i left his regular drs > office i took him in hoping that he had a virus or some htat could be > treated and it would get better . i guess that is awful huh . doc said > tha he it wasnt anything he could find so that leaves us with inly one > thing left his jra. i think that i am over the shocked part and now i > am just getting angry how much more should he have to take . it is > killing me to have to sit and watch and not to be able to do anything > .well enough about me . i hope that all that are feeling sown are > feeling better and i will pray for you and those that arent i will > pray that you stay that way > thanks for listening > > rosetta (mom to Dakota 3 systemic)

Guest guest
What a cop-out on your doctor's part to say that to you. I had to reply to this as I had the same q for my gynacologist a few months ago. I've never had a problem with my weight until the past few years when my thyroid started going low. I gave the blood tests to my gyno and at that time hadn't seen an endo yet and hadn't gotten anyone to say I was low enough for thyroid medicine (even though I was off the low end of the test). His response to my weight question relating to thyroid was " well you know the #1 reason why people gain weight in the United States is?? It's from overeating.... " I thought to myself ... and this QUACK calls himself a doctor??? If that's what he thinks that I'm trying to overeat he clearly doesn't have a good understanding of how the human body works at all. Guest guest
Norma, even tho your thyroid is now gone, your body will still require ALL the thyroid hormones in order to function and survive. I suspect since you got the run around from your " doctor " , you are likely only taking a synthetic T4 drug rather than a " whole thyroid " med (desiccated thyroid). You are now " thyroidless " . I have been thyroidless since 1990. How " I " got back on the road to " healthy " is by taking desiccated thyroid (Armour www.armourthyroid.com) dosed up according to the return of symptoms, and properly testing/treating weak adrenals. Later on I added other things, but I can discuss that with you later on either privately or on another forum. Because of your new situation you will absolutely need to find a better practitioner. What we've found on the thyroidless group (thyroidless) is that we need to contact any local " compounding " pharmacies in our areas, and ask them fora list of those practitioners who are actively prescribing " both " Armour Thyroid (or another brand of desiccated thyroid) " AND " bioidentical hormones (BHRT), and then we contact those practitioners to see who would be the best fit. Please read this site from top to bottom: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Sam (thyroidless since 1990, healthy since 2005) k9gang@... > > Hello, > It has been a while since I have posted. Guest guest
To be fair, the number one reason for overweight in the US IS overeating. So the doc's statement doesn't make him a quack. Guest guest
Oh my. Doctors..... Read the " stop the thyroid madness " website. It sounds like you should be on Armour thyroid to replace the hormones your body is not capable of making. I too gained 20 lbs for no reason within two years of having a child. I lost it by exercise & dietary changes but you need to (And I need to & am working on it) fix the source of the problem which is doing labs to figure out how much hormones you are missing of each & then to replace them. Guest guest
You're missing the point. Yes that is the technical reason that you are overweight but he clearly has no idea how the body works and what makes a person overeat. It's something called parasites, hormones, etc.... Simply stating " overeating " is a cop-out answer big time. I like doctors that give me answers!!!! I want to be fixed, not pacified!!!! They are supposed to know more than me right?? Guest guest
Naw, I didn't miss the point at all. From your post I don't believe it is " clear " at all that he has no idea how the body works. Overeating = overweight..... for a huge number of folks here in the U.S. Parasites, hormones etc... are NOT the number 1 reason for overweight. So he didn't cop out - you just interpreted his answer the wrong way, because his answer was correct. Realistically speaking, his comment was intended to pacify - it was no doubt intended to suggest that you first investigate your eating habits before you blame him (the doc) for your weight gain. I want to be thin again too, but I'm going to tell you the truth that at my age (60) I move less, use tons less energy and therefore no matter what I eat, I'm going to gain. At my age, I'm no longer willing to give up chocolate, ice cream, chicken wings, birthday cakes, bacon, bagels w/cream cheese etc. (these things aren't my whole diet, but I no longer refuse them in order to be thin again). I b-tched and complained to my doc that I was getting fat and he wasn't medicating me properly - so he had me keep a food and drink diary and buy a book which listed fats, sugars, fiber and calories. I also had to write on each days page what I did for 'excercise'. I can tell you that I was appalled at the amount of calories I was consuming - and the lack of movement I was enjoying. This was one heck of a wake up call for me and I have since joined a gym and am trying to space out my treats so that I eat more of the healthy things more frequently than I had been. I suspect if we were all keep such a diary, we would find that we are over consuming based on the amount of activity we expend. Before a ghazillion people write and say " Oh no- I'm sure its my thyroid " I am completely aware that thyroid problems can affect our weight (metabolism). I'm just saying that it sure was an eye opener for me and I stopped accusing my doc of being all sorts of stupid! DS Re: It has been a while You're missing the point. Guest guest
As I said, Graicia - I'm well aware that some people do eat correctly and excercise properly and still don't lose weight. You are (in many areas) the exception to the rule. I would not suggest your diet, your meds , your lack of excercise on anyone as a healthy lifestyle. DS P>S> Most people today work more than 40 hours a week, with and without thyroid disease and with or without being medicated for that disease. Its what we have to do to keep our heads above water.
