The MS Skiathon for Multiple Sclerosis: A Major Challenge for a Good Cause! MONTREAL, Feb. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Next Friday, February 20, ski buffs and

others who enjoy a challenge are invited to Mont Chantecler, in Sainte-Adèle,

for the second annual MS Skiathon for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada

(Quebec Division). The event will be presided over by Honorary Chair Bernard

Trottier, a well-known sports personality. Jean-Luc Brassard, freestyle ski

champion, will also be present and has accepted to act as spokesperson for the

event.

The MS Skiathon is expected to attract about a hundred skiers.

Participants are invited to form teams of six people who will take turns

descending the slopes from morning until dusk. The team objective is 100

descents in one day! The fee for participating is $50, and includes lunch,

conference by Dr. Amit Bar-Or, after-ski cocktails, on-site entertainment, and

a draw for numerous prizes donated by our sponsors. Each participant must

agree to raise funds that will be donated to the MS Society. The organizers

are confident that their objective of $35,000 will be achieved.

The Skiathon is an original idea from Johanne Pichette. An avid skier,

she decided to organize an activity that combined her passion with the MS

cause, a cause that is particularly important to her because someone close to

her has multiple sclerosis.

By participating in the MS Skiathon and raising funds, skiers will help

to advance multiple sclerosis research. MS is the most widespread neurological

disorder among young adults in Canada. Over 12,000 Quebecers have MS. An

unpredictable disease, its main symptoms are numbness, blurred vision, extreme

fatigue, loss of balance, even partial or total paralysis.
