I'm not convinced that T4 only will produce an identical result/outcome

to a correctly functioning thyroid. It may be the standard of practice,

but it seem more the madness of medicinal crowds and marketing acumen

than good science.

The thyroid produces more than T4 and the conversion from T4 to T3 takes

resources, more of the body's resources than a thyroid that is producing

both T3 and T4 and that conversion takes place at multiple locations.

Sometimes there are rate limited results like when converting ALA to EPA

or DHA (some people are convinced that taking flax oil [ALA] is just as

effective as taking fish oil with it's mix of EPA+DHA in spite of the

fact that conversion is only a few percent to either EPA or DHA). The

conversion from T4 to T3 takes place at various places but does science

even know if all the places that use T3 are able to convert or use what

they require if only T4 is being replaced exogenously? I understanding

is that in this regards, science is shooting in the dark. I have been

lead to believe that there have been no long term studies of T4 only

since the product is GRAS. I must admit I haven't looked for any, or

any that compare T4 replacement to T4/T3 replacement.

Assuming of course that the 95% you noted are indviduals being treated

(that are ostensibly doing " fine " ) don't have something similar to

insulin resistance - t3 resistance - or high reverse t3 levels. With

insulin resistance, one can monitor fasting glucose for years and see it

hardly changing at all while insulin resistance increases and fasting

insulin, a test rarely ordered in the presence of good fasting glucose

levels, continues to increase annually. With TSH being the " gold "

standard defining a fully functioning thyroid system from production to

use of the hormone, other problems exist I believe that the TSH is

completely oblivious too. T4 only replacement may be enough for some of

the body's systems not not all.
