Guest guest
Fellow MS'er's I am writing this letter because I just finished reading a fairly new book about ms. The title is " Alternative Medicine and Multiple Sclerosis " by Dr. Allan C. Bowlby M.D., PhD. This is a book describing the various alternatives that are currently available to ms patients. This would be an excellent book for someone that knows nothing about ms be it a patient or a doctor. However, it was extremely disheartening for me because it was written with such a cautious, careful and indecisive nature. I would venture to say that it was done in this way to avoid criticism from other doctors. It is entirely safe and totally non-controversial. The sad thing is that it does not give any direction either to the patient or the doctor. It sets out the variables and leaves all decisions in limbo. If anything it would seem to cause great confusion and lack of hope. It is most disturbing to me because great strides are in fact being accomplished with ms today. Two of the most credible alternative's being utilized today are not even mentioned and this is a current book. They are " The Best Bet Diet " and " Low Dose Naltrexone " . The bottom line is this...........It appears that we ms'er's must absolutely take charge of our health and our protocol. The best way to do this is with ourselves. We must educate ourselves, share this education with ourselves and educate our doctors as well. We cannot leave decisions to the doctors alone and we must take an active part in our care. We need the doctors but we also must take responsibility for ourselves. The only way to do that is to be informed. There are a lot of good and successful things going on with ms. We do in fact have reason to be optimistic.....more than ever before. Regards, Tom The most significant thing that I learned from
