Guest guest
Are you doing this prednisone taper without a doctors approval. You may be asking for trouble. I had my liver tx on 3~11~97 and when they weaned me off prednisone at Mayo in Rochester we always went down 5 mgs a month until I got to 5 mgs then went down 1 mg a month from there. Your adrenal glands may go into shock and not produce the nature cortisol that your body needs to produce. Please call a doc or at least only taper 1 mg a month like I said or you could be asking for trouble. Take care! Lori C. [ ] stopping prednisone have a question....I know it is bad to stop prednisone suddenly, but at what dosage is stopping suddenly bad? I see how I was tapered 5 mg a week. Now I am at 8mg and wonder if it would be very bad to just stop at 8? Guest guest
I understand that you are right. Just am so frustrated tonight that I can't see straight. I had those scopes last Friday and the doctor told my husband to call for me to get an appointment to come in and discuss the tests. She told me that now she knows the pain I have is from the meds and not from something inside my gut. This really bothers me, but I knew it all along and didn't want to really go through the scopes....but it was good in the end because they got the polyp that could have been bad later on. ANyway, I called on Monday and was given the run around from the scheduling secretary. She said she would have to talk to the doctor on Wednesday before she could schedule an appointment. Well....I finally waited until noon and called to see what was up. Of course, they were all on their lunch break. Now, I called the nurse and asked on her machine what I should do? About an hour later, I received a call from the scheduling secretary and she told me she had two appointments....one tomorrow at 1:40 or May 1 at 8:45. I cannot believe it. I told her that I was docked $700 from my last pay check...she didn't care. So, I am going to be docked some more because I can only work 1/2 day. It is going to get me into trouble to be certain at work. I am just frustrated. The closer I get to trying to get well, or at least better, the harder it is for me to get to see the doctor. I relaly give up. SOmetimes, it is just not worth all of these appointments and pills and being sick. debby [ ] stopping prednisone have a question....I know it is bad to stop prednisone suddenly, but at what dosage is stopping suddenly bad? Guest guest
Debby, I'm so sorry about having to deal with health professionals who don't seem to care. I was thinking about how each of us in this group is like a link in a chain, we all need each other, to be strong, isn't neat we can hold on to each other even when we feel like we don't have much to give. Guest guest
Dear Debby, I’ve worked alongside those receptionists and they have no clue or training! Can you talk to their office manager? I thank my lucky stars this AIH didn’t strike while I was in New Orleans! It is nearly impossible to get ANY appointment in a reasonable time at either Tulane or LSU. I would have been deathly ill by the time they would have seen me. They closed their ‘walk-in clinic’ too so when I had a problem it was to the ER, when a phone call to my primary care doctor (inaccessible) would have been enough. Document what is going on at work regarding being docked pay and harassed and present it to the supervisor above that person. That is abusive what they are doing to you. They tried to do that to me at the bank and my manager got it from her supervisor. Re: [ ] stopping prednisone I understand that you are right. Guest guest
Debby I would like to also say I am sorry. I am one of the health professionals, who do appointment scheduling, back office ect for a primary care doc. I also have AIH. I know I will go out of my way to help get people in around their work times. My doc has two am where she comes in at 800am and one evening she sees pts. till 600pm. We even see pts over the noon hour. Some tips if you can't talk to doc or when you leave message you do not get return call. Ask to speak with office manager, or the back office manager, when you do get to speak with doc explain what has been going on. Keep a record of times and dates you placed calls so you can tell doc. I hope this helps. I know I get as frustruated as the next person with this, actually I am worse as I know alot of it is just young girls that are overworked or JUST DON'T CARE!!!!! Guest guest
Thank you Glo for your information...I did keep a record of the problems I had. I can't tell you how shocked the doctor was when she sat back, threw her hands up and said, "I was never contacted at all about you calling!" Then she told me to contact either one lady or herself. I am glad, for I really like this doctor, but hate to complain. I guess the biggest problem is that the doctors are taking on too many patients and thus creating an extreme load. In all fairness, the scheduler is very young and ONLY knows what is on the computer screen. Truly they can NOT change the schedule without the doctor's approval. HOWEVER, there was NO excuse for her to not contact the doctor. I hope someone talks with her and sets her straight! A lot of damage could happen with a patient with liver disease if they are told the doctor is going to be contacted and is never notified of a problem....thanks again...debby [ ] stopping prednisone> >> >> > have a question....I know it is bad to stop prednisone>suddenly, but at what dosage is stopping suddenly bad? Guest guest
i am a new mwmber to this suppport group but have been on prednisone lots os times and my doctor tape me down very slowly. I usually have to go to 5mg every other day for a week or two before i can stop because your pituitary gland needs time to restart.. Of coure it depends on how long you have been on it and what your dr. recommends.

I've tried mortrin and tyl. on times that i couldn't get him to the dr. to ask for the pred. any way on those weekends he is in and out of the bath some times when too high its in the pool for him. i am one parent who knows he needs the pred. no matter what i feel about the drug. besides I'm not the one who's body depends on the fever going down... i can't say your going to suffer because i don't like the drug. i think his dr. cares about him and wouldn't let anything bad happen. any way with the pred the temp goes down almost immediately without Friday to Monday morning. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Carol, We just weathered a recent fever episode. After putting Conyers on Cimetidine and actually getting him to take it twice daily (doesn't taste good) we have seen some improvements. We, too, used prednisone for Conyers' fevers and experienced them more frequently. Some were just 8 days apart. He started to fever this past Friday and after talked to his doctor, we decided to " just go with it " . I am a teacher out for summer, and his twin sister was at my mom's house so I was able to devote my all my time, energy and sleepless nights to him. To our suprise, he only fevered for 2.5 days (shortest one yet) and it only got to about 103.5 F. We are hoping that our 2 solid months on cimetidine and not using prednisone this time will pay off in the long run!! It had been 36 days in between these episode compared to 8 days. Just hoping the next one is a long time away if not never. Wishful thinking.... Mom to Conyers (2.4 months fevering for 13 months) Maddie (2.4 months) > > From: c vdl <jczij@...> > Date: 2007/06/06 Wed PM 03:45:13 EDT > > Subject: stopping prednisone > > Hi All, > > Would someone please give us some tips on " weathering the storm " ? We've been using prednisone and the intervals are of course shortening. Yesterday Ian woke up with a temp of 101.1 and by noon (5 minutes after giving Tylenol) his fever was 103.8. We put him in a lukewarm bath and it still climbed to 105.8. The Tylenol or bath didn't touch the fever. By the way we had given him Motrin at 8:50am and then Tylenol at 11:50am, so the Motrin wasn't keeping it down either. We wanted to make it w/o prednisone but were too scared since Ian also has " patchy white spots " in his brain (from a recent MRI) and aren't convinced that the fevers haven't done damage. > > How do you get the fevers down and how long does your child's temp stay above 105? Guest guest
What is Orapred? Was the other drug naproxen? Thanks for your input. carol Re: stopping prednisone I know the doctor's prescribed something that started with an N for Sami. It was a prescription form of Advil, which was stronger than regular Advil. We just use cool rags and keep Orapred fast melts on hand if her temp reaches 105. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Carol- We give Conyers 1/2 teaspoon twice a day. We just play a little game out of it. Maddie gets her " medicine " which is usually water or juice and they both choose what sticker they want to put it on their calendar. That also helps us to remember if we gave him the cimetidine. Sometimes mornings can be crazy. Just be aware that it tastes very bitter. Maddie is a very easy going child. I am glad since having twins is very hard. So when Conyers fevers she knows he doesn't feel well. On the other hand, I don't think Conyers' symptoms are as severe as others. He just just runs a temp. and has a nasty throat. So we are blessed in that aspect. Good luck with the cimetidine. Like I said in an earlier posting, we have been giving it to Conyers for a good solid 7 weeks, and this past episode was a 103.5 fever for 2 days compared to 5 to 6 days. We are definitely going to stick with it for a while but always have the Opraped on hand. > > From: c vdl <jczij@...> > Date: 2007/06/06 Wed PM 11:42:41 EDT > > Subject: Re: Re: stopping prednisone > > What dosage do you give Conyers? Guest guest
In September '06, his fever went to 105.5 F. We ended up at Children's Hospital for a couple of hours that afternoon and was told it was a virus. That was the highest it went!....Anyway, we started him on cimetidine on March 23 of this year and this is the way the rest of this year has gone so far... March 21 fever March 23 Doctor visit and start cimetidine and gave prednisone (fever gone in 45 mins. We thought this was the miracle drug) April 6 fever gave prednisone on the 7th April 19 fever gave orapred April 27 fever gave orapred on the 28 June 1-2 fever Did NOT give orapred We were not able to give the cimetidine to Conyers on a regular basis until about last full week in April. He just wouldn't take it. But after all the favorings, stickers and lots of praying, no problem. Our doc said to give cimetidine a good 6-8 weeks. His two day fever this last time wasn't as bad as it as been. Hopefully they will start to get farther apart. I like the way prednisone or Orapred takes the fever away almost instantly but we fevered so frequently afterwards. Once again, when we go on vacation, I will have Orapred with us. I'm worried about getting through the next fever w/o prednisone while we're waiting for the cimetidine to start working (which ID told us could take 2 months). > > Thanks so much, > carol > > stopping prednisone > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Would someone please give us some tips on " weathering the storm " ? Guest guest
My husband and I both concerned about giving so much medication. My husband doesn't even like to give Conyers tylenol or motrin. We used cimetidine and Prednisone together and Tylenol, Motrin and cimetidine together. I had the cimetidine and Prednisone filled at the same time at pharmacy and asked specially if I could give them together and asked about the motrin and tylenol. That is interesting. I will certainly call our pharmacy tomorrow and double check. Thanks for the info. > > From: c vdl <jczij@...> > Date: 2007/06/07 Thu PM 05:36:35 EDT > > Subject: Re: Re: stopping prednisone > > thank you - it does help! But our ID doctor told us not to give Prednisone while we're using the cimetidine. She also said to just use motrin with the cimetidine because both the cimetidine and tylenol affect the liver. Which did you use together? Thanks again. > carol > > stopping prednisone > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Would someone please give us some tips on " weathering the storm " ? Guest guest
I hope your doctor finds something that will work for you. I'd ask how your adrenal glands might have been affected by prednisone use. Let us know how things go. Best wishes. Harper [ ] this and that from the Netherlands Hi everybody, I'm sorry I haven't written at all the last couple of months. I am very tired lately and don't feel like doing anything. Just before Christmas the doctor gave me prednisone for 3 weeks, because the levels weren't good at all and were getting worse. So after the 3 weeks, my levels were good again and I had to start with 150 Imuran and cut down the prednisone. I don't have prednisone anymore, which I'm glad about, but as I said in the beginning, I'm very tired. Next month I have to go back for an echo and the normal blood checkup I get every 2/3 months. I will ask if there is anything to do about being tired all the time. I guess I'm lucky that I don't have pain at all. I'm sorry to read about the pain some people in this group have. In Holland it has been very cold. I'm not really used to cold weather. We mostly have it about 3 weeks and then it's gone, but it has been cold here off and on since the beginning of December. It's freezing outside and it feels like I don't have any clothes on. My bones hurt when I go outside, but I have to go, because I have to go to my work and walk my 2 English Bulldogs. I'm glad I still have a job, even if it's for only 20 hours a week. Before I worked 32 hours for the same boss and they could keep me on for these new hours. I have worked with this company since I graduated from school and that's 23 years already. I only work in the morning and when I get back I go to bed for about 2 hours. After that I walk the dogs, check my mail and then start dinner. After dinner I usually check if somebody needs my help with the courses I give true email (Excel, Dreamweaver, Photoshop), watch some TV and go to bed. I wish everybody a nice day and I will try to write some more. Michele AIH since march 2009 (imuran 150mg) 43 years old
Guest guest
Please be SURE that you didn't drop prednisone too fast. Your symptoms could come from having dropped quickly and/or from stopping quickly. I took many months to drop from 6.5 to 6, then alternating 6mg and 5mg, then down to 5mg. The results were far better than when I'd tried to drop more rapidly. Harper [ ] this and that from the Netherlands Hi everybody, I'm sorry I haven't written at all the last couple of months. Guest guest
it took me 3 weeks to stop from 20 mg to nothing Michele -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- From: Harper Sent: Monday, February 28, 2011 4:27 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Stopping prednisone Please be SURE that you didn't drop prednisone too fast.
