Hyper / hypo symptoms overlap. Chest pain is common in hypo. Sore muscles

can be hypo. Can also be adrenal. My daughter had the coldest hands you

ever felt before she went on Armour.

Did you actually take your body temp? Some people who are hot, actually

have low body temp.

How will you know when you are on the overdosage side of magnesium? After

all symptoms off too much magnesium are the same symptoms as too little

causes. Have you been tested recently to see what your current level is?

When taking Levoxyl, it takes awhile for the up or down dosage to take

effect. Armour is much quicker. A lot harder to adjst levoxyl based on how

you feel, and the effect is delayed.

Too much magnesium can cause serious health problems including nausea,

vomiting, severely lowered blood pressure, slowed heart rate, deficiencies

of other minerals, confusion, coma, and even death. More common side effects

from magnesium include upset stomach and diarrhea.

Magnesium competes with calcium for absorption and can cause a calcium

deficiency if calcium intake levels are already low.

******************

Lowered BP and heart rate is part of what causes the cold hands in

hypothyroidism. Notice that happening?

It can also lower the effects of the levosyl -

http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsSupplements/Magnesiumcs.html

There have been case reports of magnesium containing antacids reducing the

effectiveness of levothyroxine, which is taken for an under active thyroid.

This is important because many people take laxatives containing magnesium

without letting their doctor know.

My BP is in the high normal range. Pulse is 78. I just worked out pretty

heavily. I feel

alright on less levoxyl so far... I am tired because of only 5 and half hours of

sleep. I'll keep

the levoxyl low for a few days and see what happens. I can feel even slight

changes of levoxyl

pretty quickly but not as easily since I started all the fish oils. I am

leaving on a vacation on

friday, I hope I am not too messed up with the dose shifting I am doing.

I think a lot of us on this forum have experienced what too much magnesium

means... diarrhea. I

don't think you understand magnesium absorption to well; any excess magnesium is

removed in waste.

Too much magnesium is so rare that it is almost non-existant except with kidney

disease and most

likely would happen with IV's. It is a transient state where too much magnesium

is circulating in

the blood. My 7500 mg worth of IV just gave me total relaxation. Besides,

calcium pills would

counter any of the fleeting bouts of this rare hypermagnesia...which is a

condition that would

last a matter of hours, if at all.

Every test I've taken has shown high normal calcium without supplementing and

LOW magnesium WITH

supplementing. Calcium can be, at high dosages, a toxin that is deposited

throughout the body

without proper support minerals to aid in it's absorption. You can get too much

calcium and

damage your health. This mineral is what you have to watch out for as most of

your previous

hormone absorption links indicated.

I am waiting to finish Iodine and this gene silencing regimen and will get

another RBC. When you

finally get your RBC analysis... please post your magnesium status, it will be

very interesting to

see that.

Amy-

Have you tried taking magnesium supplements? I take 600 mg a day. It helps.

Armour is the only one so far that has worked for me and thus I take the

magnesium to quell the rapid heart rate. I don't want to stop taking the

Armour.

Nancie

I've been on Armour since January and at 60mg since early summer and

was feeling pretty decent. For the last few weeks, I have been

feeling really agitated and can feel my heartbeat -- often up in the

90's. The sensations peak around 2 hours after I take the Armour and

I take it 2x a day and so I have a double peak of feeling hyper and

creepy. Anyone have an idea what's going on?

This morning I decided to cut the Armour dose in half and got the same

reaction -- just not as bad. Nothing else has changed in my meds.

Thanks, Amy

That's a good idea! I have a lot of muscle issues anyway and probably need more

magnesium. What form do you take? I have had trouble in the past with

magnesium supps just shooting through me. Thanks! Amy

I lt works for me, but that doesn't mean that is the right dose for you or

anybody else. You have to see what dose works for you. At 600 mg I don't

have problems with muscle cramps; constipation or heart palps. Some days I

sometimes take 800 mg. It just depends on what is going on with me and my

hypo T and my lupus....

There are transdermal options for magnesium. Do a web search for

" transdermal magnesium " .

Here's one book that is getting good reviews on Amazon.com.

Did you work up to that mg? I'm currently trying very hard to even use

100mg (cut a 200 mg in half). Is there something else to take with it to

reduce stomach and bowell distress?

Rule of thumb is to take magnesium until bowel distress occurs, and then

back off 50 mg.

Also, take in divided doses with meals. Also, since calcium has the opposite

effect, I take my mag with calcium.

sue

As with calcium, chelated forms of magnesium are absorbed best by the body.

Magnesium oxide is also available and is often less expensive, but it is

poorly absorbed by the body. Since high doses of magnesium can cause

diarrhea, you should divide your doses and take them with meals throughout

the day.

Calcium helps keep magnesium from just shooting through you if that's what you

mean by distress.

Constipation??? I thought magnesium was a laxative!!!??? Magnesium

citrate is what I've taken to " clean me out " for a colonoscopy. And it

sure as h*ll didn't constipate me.

Long ago I was given a magnesium product [sulphate?] mixed with aluminum

hydroxide as an antacid. I immediately got the " runs " and investigated

the contents of the medicine. The pharmacist said the magnesium was a

laxative and the aluminum was a constipater, so I had to get a product

with a higher ratio of aluminum to magnesium.

I know; we're all different...

The hypo T was causing the constipation, hence one of the reasons for

magnesium.
