Guest guest
I forgot to mention that Palmer's book strongly warns against over-the-counter sleep remedies -- and alcohol, of course. Harper
Guest guest
My daughter tells me that the Power naps are wonderful...just resting long enough to totally relax and just about the time to get to sleep, you wake up. The trick she says is to NOT stay asleep and get up immediately thus getting in that Power nap process.....works for her...but I prefer once I am asleep to stay there! I'll see if I can find my Worman book and see what he has to say. The Palmer book also speaks to exercise and relaxation techniques and suggests that some prescription drugs may be helpful. Those include "selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI's)" such as Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac. Supplemental melatonin may be helpful, but it isn't well regulated yet, according to Palmer. Guest guest
Hi Harper! So good to see you again!!! When I was on the 60 mg pred and feeling like the Tazmanian Devil at night, I asked the doctor about melatonin; he did not have any opinion one way or the other, and basically left it up to me. I got a bottle and started taking it and didnt see too much benefit. Then my sharp eyed daughter, reading the bottle pointed out a warning on the label about not taking it if you have an autoimmune disease without consulting your doctor. Using the risk v benefit idea on my own, I just decided to forget it. Because I believe my AIH was triggered by medication, I am leery of taking anything now, so I just try to rest when I can to make up for rought nites...but it sure isnt easy. nne > In a message dated 12/12/01 11:14:11 AM Pacific Standard Time, > ldm_12@y... writes: > > > > for those of you who are able to work and have a > > office, do what i do and close the door and take a 15 > > min. nap...sure, it's not much, but every little bit > > helps. > > > > lia > > > > The Palmer book recommends short naps morning and afternoon (not long ones). > I'll see if I can find my Worman book and see what he has to say.
