Vitiligo, like AIH, is an autoimmune disease. That's the only connection. Many people have more than one autoimmune disease, and some of those people have both AIH and vitiligo. Guest guest
Just supporting Harper,- I have had vitiligo since I was 10 it started as a dime size spot on my thigh, now 30 i have vitiligo over 97% of my body. I was diagnosed with AIH at 26 years old. since when you have one Autoimmune disease and you have a knowledgeable doctor they started screening me for other autoimmune diseases at age 10. now since I have 2 Autoimmune diseases I have been screened for others. My grandmother was in her 50's when she got vitiligo. Just one spot on her hand and there it stopped. Lucy.
Guest guest
, Check with your MD. My PA at Hepatologist office told me the other day that there are many different things that put you on the transplant list. Elevated Bilirubin is one of them but other things also get you there. She said that ascities automatically put you there and she also mentioned the high ammonia levels. I think they should give you a clearer list of what gets you on the list. She advised me that each area had a point value and the higher the points you had the more you were moved to the top of the list. Maybe some of these guys that have had a transplant can shed some light on this. Fortunately, I'm not quite there yet and this is one list I'm trying to hold off getting on. Guest guest
Hi Lucy, I noticed the white (hypopigmented) spots on my already fair Irish skin in my teens.....asked my local doc and he identified it and said it was an autoimmune response. The AIH (documented by positive ANA and liver biopsies) was found 1/2000. Since diagnosis, I have had total 5 hospitalizations for esophageal bleeds with 2 - 4 units of blood transfused each time. Since I am being evaluated for transplant, the docs say I need to turn yellow first (jaundice). My ammonia levels are very high but I was put through brain MRI, neurology and psychiatry. BTW, brain MRI showed a "stroke" (I am 45)......but neurologist said this is "autoimmune in nature too". I stay faithful in prayer. My prayers to you,
Guest guest
Lucy, you are right! It is associated with AIH...boy, did I open a can of worms! So very very sorry! I too have vitiligo...and there is only a tiny spot on my inner legs that is not affected...truly I am one of the ORIGINAL white women! I just hated when I was "turning" color. The summer was the worst. When I would go outside with my kids for an assembly we would come back in and I would "glow" with white spots until our eyes got accustomed to the lights. I really hated the embarrassment! Then, a dermatologist wanted me to take the light treatment to help give me color back. The insurance OK'd the treatment, but then backed out on paying for the pills that you had to take before taking the light treatment. Then, I found out you have to wear funny sunglasses for 24 hours after the treatment and that the treatment would have to be taken all my life if I wanted to have pigmentation and that did NOT appeal to me...so within 3 years, I was pretty white once the disease finally took over. Now, I don't look funny at all! I am glad...debby Re: [ ] Vitiligo and AIH Just supporting Harper,- I have had vitiligo since I was 10 it started as a dime size spot on my thigh, now 30 i have vitiligo over 97% of my body.
