An overly simplified answer is...this is just a highly concentrated,

liquid form of prednisone. Depending on the doctor, it can be a

common form of treatment for patients with extremely high LFT's to

shock their system back to more normal levels. I've had it done a

couple of times and didn't experience any adverse side effects. I

can't speak for anyone but myself, but I would have no reservations

about being given solumedrol again. Good Luck. - ph

Regarding the SoluMedrol yes it is a form of Prednisone. I am a nurse. I can't speak for everyone on their side effects but I have given SoluMedrol to my patients for the last 12 years and no one ever complained of those symptoms. We use this drug quite abit. Good luck.

Dear Amber:

I understand your fears, but something to consider is if the

shortterm side effects of the treatment will give you longterm

relief from the pain. Perhaps weighing the benefits vs. the negative

will help you decide on a course of action.

Amber,

I was on solumedrol post transplant, lots at the beginning then tapered off

like prednisone. I've also had it as a single 1 gram dose to counteract a

nasty reaction to retuxin (chemo drug). I found the reactions emotionally

and energy wise similar to Prednisone. At high doses manic was a mild term

for my reaction, psychotic was more like it. But to be fair to the medrol, I

was also on mega doses of prograf which also makes you loony.

My husband & I now lovingly refer to my medrol days as having 'medrol

moments' when I would jump all over him for things like not emptying the

lint catcher on the dryer. We got to the point where we could laugh, I would

overreact and he would look at me and ask if I was medrolling.... kinda like

stressing which I told him wasn't a word either, he responded that it didn't

matter he was stressing anyway.

One of the post transplant nurses always refer to it as constant intense

PMS'ing.

Sorry Amber if this sounds scary... it really isn't. Out of control, however

accurate, is too intense a concept. Solumedrol is a great drug to decrease

the body's natural immune overresponse to other drugs.

I don't feel like the side effects should cause you to pull out of a

treatment which could help you alleviate joint pain. Good luck.

has anyone ever been given a medication called solu medrol? i know it's not

liver related but i'm aware there are people in this group who have joint

problems as part of the whole auto immune thing.

the rheumatologist told me i'd need to be in hospital for 3 days having iv

infusions daily, this for something that isn't even my biggest problem?? what

i'm concerned about though are the side effects, the rheumatologist said for

about 5 hours after each infusion solu medrol causes people to be manic, not

some people, not possibly,it's plain what happens, wonderful! the thought of

not being in control terrifies me,has anyone had the treatment?

i'm trying to decide whether i'll accept the treatment or not.

because this isn't something crucial if i can't feel more confident than i

am right now i'm not prepared to go ahead, however the pain in my joints is

not exactly fun,it would be nice to have one less thing giving me

trouble.the silly thing is the treatment isn't a big deal,it's not

dangerous,it's pretty run of the mill, but the side effect, losing control is

my biggest fear, maybe if he'd used.some word other than manic ;) 'slightly

stoned ' would've been no stress .so it it 'slightly stoned'??

Yes I had solu medrol for treatment of rejection after my liver transplant and I had terrible awful nightmares, and I was almost manic it seemed. I had a hard time sleeping and when I did I had the nightmares that were so very real and then I would cry all the time. It is a very strange medicine at high doses!
