Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I'm relatively new to the group, have been reading your discussions of ldn with great interest for weeks now. For background--I was dxd in 1982 with MS. Faired pretty well for the most part with relatively manageable symptoms all these years, although over the course of the last few years things have been more difficult. Last summer, however, I had a major relapse, bedridden for months, etc. Finally started to come out of it and reluctantly agreed to begin Copaxone in November. Went back into a downward spirol almost immediately that was worse than the previous relapse. Have been on the mend for probably the last month or so, thankfully. I am very enthusiastic about getting on ldn as soon as possible, especially after reading that ldn seems to reverse new symptoms that have developed within the 3 months prior to starting ldn (my first post was in regard to this. Thanks! to those who responded). Besides reading all of the groups posts, I have also been doing as much outside research on ldn as I can. I want to be prepared when I ask my neuro for the script. As a result, I have found what I consider some very interesting info and wanted to share it with the group. The slant of my research into ldn comes from the idea of ldn being precribed " off-label " as so many other meds are versus the so- called need for " clinical trials " as so many of your drs seem to respond to your desire for a prescription to try it. My neuro put me on Amantadene (fda approved for Parkinson's) several years ago, and recently, Provigil (fda approved for Narcolepsy). I'm sure many of us have been prescribed meds " off-label " countless times. Did all of these drugs require " clinical trials " before our drs wrote the scripts? According to my research, it seems drs are allowed by the fda to prescribe meds for a new " off-label " use with as little as a couple of articles written by drs regarding their own experience with patients on the meds and getting the articles published in various medical literature. There is controversy about this, but maybe those of you already on ldn could encourage your drs to pursue this, and it could then be widely precribed. My research is ongoing but I wanted to share what I've come up with so far. Some of it relates to issues raised here (Naltrexone vs ReVia, etc.), most of it is info I think might help me convince my neuro to prescribe it (scientific/medical vs anecdotal), a little is of personal interest you might also find of interest. It's quite extensive already so instead of copying it to this post, I'll just list the URLs for you. I hope you find it helpful and informative, sorry this is rather lengthy already without including the specific info. re: off-label Naltrexone/ReVia http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/2002_08/08_02_kleptomania.asp http://www.something-fishy.org/doctors/medications.php http://www.fdainfo.com/bimo.html You can search " off-label Naltrexone or ReVia " to find numerous conditions it's being prescribed. re: off-label controversy http://www.independent.org/tii/news/001125Esposito.html http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/health/off_label http://www.ncpa.org/iss/hea/2002/pd041602e.html re: governmental role/removing barriers for drug approval http://aspe.os.dhhs.gov/health/reports/cocaine/4cases.htm re: maker of Naltrexone/ReVia http://www.stockfunnel.com re: liver toxicity http://www.lancegooberman.com/liver.htm re: fyi http://www.pathmed.com/p/49,85.html http://www.pathmed.com/p/42,50.html My best to all of you. Guest guest
I especially liked the response to the liver toxicity This seems to be the only real holdback when you approach your doctor and it is spelled out here very plainly. If any one doesn't read this then you will not be prepared when you ask for your ldn prescription. I also didn't know that there were no drugs tested by the FDA on children and so therefore most drugs prescribed to children were "offlabel" persay.,Reg. -------Original Message------- From: low dose naltrexone Date: 02/20/04 19:07:25 low dose naltrexone Subject: RE: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Info on LDN Lesa, Thanks for a great post. . . . the additional info you included was wonderful! -----Original Message-----From: Lesa [mailto:lesah@...] Sent: Friday, February 20, 2004 2:27 PMlow dose naltrexone Subject: [low dose naltrexone] Re: Info on LDN re: off-label Naltrexone/ReVia http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/2002_08/08_02_kleptomania.asphttp://www.something-fishy.org/doctors/medications.phphttp://www.fdainfo.com/bimo.htmlYou can search "off-label Naltrexone or ReVia" to find numerous conditions it's being prescribed.re: off-label controversyhttp://www.independent.org/tii/news/001125Esposito.htmlhttp://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/health/off_labelhttp://www.ncpa.org/iss/hea/2002/pd041602e.htmlre: governmental role/removing barriers for drug approvalhttp://aspe.os.dhhs.gov/health/reports/cocaine/4cases.htmre: maker of Naltrexone/ReViahttp://www.stockfunnel.comre: liver toxicityhttp://www.lancegooberman.com/liver.htmre: fyihttp://www.pathmed.com/p/49,85.htmlhttp://www.pathmed.com/p/42,50.htmlMy best to all of you.Lesa ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
Guest guest
Hello Everyone, Felt it was important to update info regarding the links I listed, as some of the info can seem endless or worse, difficult to find what I intended. Linking to www.stockfunnel.com you have to go to " Pharmaceuticals & Biotech " then scroll down to " Bristol Meyers-Squibb " (BMY) New York, NY CEO Dolan. Careful reading under " BMY Acquisitions and Alliances " reveals a minor mention of ReVia, but the rest of the info in the Bristol Meyers-Squibb section is interesting info on the company. (Maybe they'd be interested in knowing we're out here, as they look as if they're in need of increased sales.) Linking to http://aspe.os.dhhs.gov/health/reports/cocaine/4cases.htm after the initial info on Naltrexone, be sure to read " Case Study 2: Naltrexone " for an interesting read on the complete history of it's development. I hope this is helpful to those interested. Thanks, and Reg for the feedback. I'm still researching, and trying to relocate info I seem to have lost I think from PathMed. In a footnote referencing a natural supplement I am interested in there was mention made regarding a study in mice where the substance blocked endorphins in what might be much the same way Naltrexone does. My best to all.
