Genetics is IMHO only one of the risk factors. I believe being female

is another. I don't know what they all are. Genetics is AFAIK

certainly not the only risk factor.

Since you are the only one in your family to be hypo then I would

suspect there is much less of a chance that yours is genetic; or that

your offspring will have it.

I agree. Genetics is the best hope we have so far of ending disease for the

human race.

Of course then the powers that be in the governments will have to figure out

what to do

with all the people that are not dying on schedule.

I disagree- it can still be genetic- because most people in our

grandparents era did not know what their diseases were caused by because there

was not definitive tests back then. diseases can skip generations before they

show up. the human genome was JUST recently mapped, so we are only learning

about factors and other characteristics that are associated with the compete

genome. everyday we find another gene or genes that are responsible for a

disease.

as far as goes she could have had it in her family but it was never

diagnosed and/or skipped generations; OR it could have just started in her and

the possibility of her daughter developing it in the future would be 50-50.

since her daughter has her mom's genes. the daughter could have the genetic

predisposition for the disease but never get it because it may never get

triggered. with it may have been triggered by her experiences with the

vaccines in the army.

the field of genetics is one of the most interesting specialties because it is

totally wide open- where we do not have the complete picture yet of every

disease out there. I love genetics.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my thyroid questions. I don't

have any symptoms and the blood work was only done because I have a

new really thorough OBGYN that does blood work yearly on all of his

patients. I am planning on having more tests run to be on the safe

side. I think the suggestions were free T3, free T4, and

antibodies….are these blood or saliva tests? Is this the best way

to diagnose if you have a thyroid problem? Given my family history

of the disease what can I do to be proactive so that I don't develop

hypothyroidism? Will taking a good form of iodine protect me….why

is it necessary to take 3-4 grams of Vitamin C with iodine? What if

I ever get pregnant will I be at a great risk for developing

hypothyroidism?

I have been taking the kelp (standard process) from my chiropractor

and was up all night unable to sleep at all 2 nights ago…could the

kelp have caused this? I have also noticed since I have been taking

it that I wake up more during the night, but am able to go right

back to sleep. I don't ever suffer from insomnia and it is the only

thing that I am doing different. I didn't take it at all yesterday

in fear it was causing my sleep problem. I slept much better last

night.

I really appreciate all of the input and insight that I am gaining

from all of you.

You'll find all kind of opinions here [everyone has one; some of them

stink! {ggg}]. Some will tell you that iodine will cure HIV, cancer,

hypothyroidism, and get you into heaven with 72 virgins. You'll note no

one will tell you where you'd find 72 virgins nowadays [ggg]. It's

probably best to check out a number of viewpoints, do a lot of on line

research [preferably not from the sites trying to sell you something];

and make up your own mind. If possible find a doc who will take the time

to listen and consider alternative viewpoints; especially if the

majority viewpoint of medical help doesn't provide relief. Be aware that

this site is heavily skewed in favor of those who respond with less than

optimal results from standard medication; so alternatives are

disproportionally represented here.
