Hi ....glad to see you found a group to talk to...I'm sorry about your recent diagnosis....were you being treated for liver disease before this or did this come out of the blue... Its nice to know that you are happily married....that makes two of us....married my HS sweetheart...it was 30 yrs this past march...we have 3 kids...well grown kids...It is Tyler my 19 yr old who has liver disease...and other auto-immune diseases... In another liver support group...one for psc...there is a young couple who is going thru what you are....he just started chemo...it is his wife who writes to me...basically off the group...to let me know how things are going....and so far so good...he is also getting radiation....their children are very young.... I will have to ask her if he is getting Gemzar....we write about once a week....so I may not have an answer until next week....I will be thinking of you on Thur.... Guest guest Posted December 8, 2007 Report Share Posted December 8, 2007 Hi Rox So far we have received over 3,500 emails, almost a thousand phone calls and over 24 million web hits in 6 weeks at the peak. Of those emails /calls - about 1,400 on recovery. TACA paid a 10 person team has been working insane hours since September & it is just starting to slow down – barely (I don’t feel slow down yet but I am told it is slowing down.) I still volunteer about 65 hours a week. I have to be blunt: It is absolutely impossible to answer all of the requests. And boy were their doozies. My personal favorite of the dozens and dozens of requests for & Evan for playdates/birthday parties. Lots of Jim Carrey requests for him to whisper at their kid. (FYI: She/ he did not do any of these. She does not do personal requests.) Over 450 requests for her to attend events/speak at conferences, etc. The focus on the phone calls and emails have been families needing help. Those got answered. But the folks that were selling stuff, wanted to come somewhere & not all the recovered kids did not get answered. Note: I strongly encourage anyone with a recovered kid to be sure you are in contact w/ ARI www.autism.com They are doing the official counts. As for /her books and what she wants to do: Based on the emails she chose different stories based on what she was looking for. A lot of the stories were the same. I forward the stuff that meets the parameters (I get 250-400 emails a day on related items) and she decides what is a go/no go. I don’t. I wish there was more of a science around this. I wish I had more time. I had no idea would stir up quite the volume of responses that she did. Important note: less than 10 cranky calls & emails. The lion share were strongly positive about her efforts.
