Guest guest
I can vouch for the nails and hair growing like crazy! I have naturally curly hair, so I don't know anything about perms!! Of course, I straighten mine out!! We always want what we don't have!! (Reg Kreil) Reply-to: low dose naltrexone low dose naltrexone Now I just have to get in on this not that I claim to be an expert on perms or anything else for that matter, but it seems to me that just before any company no matter whether it's soap or shampoo or conditioner, releases a "new improved" type of product, the old product that has worked very well for many years seems to loose it's strength. Now is that just my take on things or are we being manipulated, being sold inferior goods for a short while so that the "new improved" type appears better. If I am right then the perm you are using will come out shortly as "new improved sudden hold" or some such thing! All I have really noticed is how fast my nails are growing and my sister who cuts my hair is watching to see how fast I need a new haircut. I think it is growing faster too. Guest guest
There are kids with severe apraxia who are non-verbal and do not have autism. My son was what I call functionally non-verbal at age 4. He had under 100 words (if you counted animal sounds) that he used rarely. He didn't put two words together. He was misdiagnosed with autism at age 2.5 and had been treated for autism with no progress. At age 4 we stopped autism treatments and started ones directed at apraxia and he made slow and steady progress. He made words and sounds so he wasn't technically non-verbal, but he wasn't really speaking. He didn't speak because he could not motor plan the sounds together. Even the words he had he would say about 6 different ways. Thank you was " da do " , " tay too " , etc. He couldn't repeat the same word the same way twice in a row. He could make some sounds in isolation, but could not say VCV patterns of sounds like " ahh - mmm- ahh " It would just jarble or come out as completely different sounds. It's great that your son is saying so much so young. Many of us had very different experiences! Guest guest
Hi Carol, My son is verbal but the back and forth communication that you and I have is not there. His speech therapists all agree he is scatter across the board from 3 to 5 1/2 years of age. He will be 6 at the end of this month. The reason I'm giving him the fish oil is in the hope he can say a 3 to 5 word sentence without being prompt to or thinking about what he wants. I'm waiting for more spontaneity on his behalf. Tracey
Guest guest
My 8dd was never considered Autistic, but she was non-verbal at 4 and 5yrs old. The doctors often didnt agree with my description as her being non-verbal. She was signing about 30-40 words at the age of 4yrs...we started signing at 1yr old. She always understood every word that was said to her--that was very evident!! She had hydrocephalus as a baby and had four surgeries--so her challenges were clearly neurological--so no one was surprised wiht the apraxia. Every time I told one of her doctors--surgeon, physiatrist, pediatrician and neurologist that she was non-verbal because she had no words--only dada at 3yrs old--they'd correct me and say that Signing IS considered words and does count towards the amount of language they are using. So if I said she's saying less than 10 words, but signing 30---they'd write down that she had up to 40 words. She started talking at just after 5yrs old and was quickly putting two words together. Everyone around her was amazed how far she had come.
Guest guest
Hi, My son is 11 yo. He is considered just Severe oral and verbal Dyspraxic. He now is talking in 3 word sentences on the average but can put together up to 5 words in a sentence not in a sentence like we would the words can be in the wrong order. I would say he is about 75 percent understandable at this point. At age 5,6, 7 he would of been considered completely non verbal. He had very little speech only a handful of words total. He jumbled and mumbled every word. It was like playing charades to guess what he saying. This non verbal due to Dyspraxia .. He does not have autism at no point was he ever diagnosed with autism. Making wonderful progress though. Jeanne NH From: Carolyn Tarpey <ctarpey20@...> Subject: [ ] A question? Date: Friday, October 2, 2009, 1:04 PM Hello group, To start with, I love this group and have found it very helpful. My question is: I am reading about a lot of non-verbal 5,6,7 years old in this group. Are all these non-verbal children have just apraxia or do they have autism as well? And, what exactly does one mean by non-verbal? My son is 2 years and 8 months and has verbal apraxia. Six months ago, I would have said my son was non-verbal, he only had about a handful or so of words and only really used them if you asked him to say them. Now he can repeat or will try to repeat anything I ask him. He uses about 35 or so words on his own all day long. He can put 2 words together, example " all done " " want that " " thank you mama " . So now I would not say he is not non-verbal anymore but he is still a good year or more behind in his talking and in my view speaks like a 15 to 18 month old. He does get speech 5x a week and I think that has made a HUGE difference. So, am I fooling myself into to thinking my son is verbal when really at his age because and he still has so few words, he really is still non-verbal? Or do these 5,6 and 7 years really completely non-verbal and is that because they has autism on top of apraxia? Thank you so much
