Hi, I have been a member of this support group since 1998 when I was first

diagnosed with AIH. I write only once or twice a year.

I have made a friend here in my home town of Bend, OR who has PSC which is

also autoimmune. I think quite a few people on this site also have this. My

friend has developed a rash on her whole body that has been bothering her

for about 2 or 3 months now. Her GI specialist (in Portland) has ruled out

an obstruction or bile duct problem at this time. He has suggested that it

might be a different autoimmune problem.

I was wondering if any of you have had this experience? It looks blotchy,

red, raised, itches, and covers her from head to toe. If you have any ideas

or therories please let me know so I can pass them on to her. Thanks.

i had these symptoms about 11 months before i ended up in the

hospital with aih. it happened to me on three different occasions.

the first time was horrible-first i became very hot in my face and

then it gradually went into my arms and then legs. i got red and

blotchy and i had so many little bumps that my skin was raised. the

first time i raced to the dr and was given a shot of steroid and

liquid benydril (sp). the next two times it happened it wasn't as

severe so i just went through it, putting ice packs on my body. these

three experiences happened around my eating mexican food. i wonder

especially about " hot sauce " which i now stay away from! no dr has

been able to give me an explaination. but i know that allergies can

go hand in hand with auto-immune problems. kathy

Hi Kathy,

I think you are right about allergies and the immune system. Years

ago an allergist told me I was allergic to my own bacteria, basically

allergic to myself! I have always felt there is a connection between

allergies and autoimmune problems. I and our children have allergies

and asthma. I thought was interesting when the doctor told me that

at 19 or 20, than years later, I was diagnosed with M.S. and started

having liver problems.
