Hi everyone,

I am seeing my doctor April 5. I received my diagnosis a couple of

weeks ago and the doctor started me on predisone, 40 mg, I also take

ursodial 300 mg, 5 a day. Harper you mentioned having the doctor

check for diabetes, and hypertension, also bone density. I am

urinating frequently and also my blood pressure is going up since I

started the predisone. I am feeling extremely tired, and also am

experiencing heartburn and severe sore throats. The doctor said the

predisone is probably causing the heartburn so he started me on

protinix one a day. I am shaky especially when I don't eat on time,

and I ate a cookie the other day and I got the worst headache.

Anyway I am wondering if my blood sugar is high. Thanks for your

help.

Thanks for the replies. Things with Orapred were going fine in the beginning,

about a year ago, it just started getting worse the last couple of months.

We also have a T & A scheduled for Dec.11 at Stanford with Dr. Messner. I am

freaking out because does not get what is happening. He does not know

the words sick and fever, so I am not sure how to explanin things to him. He is

a bright kid, but still quite immature for his age (3.5). We were going to wait

for another year but these weekly fevers and so much Predisone, tylenol, and

motrin has overwhelmed us. Thanks again, and good luck with the T & A.

We were the same with the prednisone. It seemed to work great at first and

did not affect the time between the fevers. Then Calder actually stopped

fevering for over 6 months and we thought we were done with it. He started

again in the spring and the fevers were every two weeks and had started

coming even closer (a day or so each time) so we tried cutting back on the

prednisone. I am freaking out about the surgery because we are having it

done in Fairfax, VA which is about an hour and a half from where we live. I

just hope there are no emergencies. I scheduled it the day before

Thanksgiving because that way it is less time I have to take off work but

now Calder seems distressed that he won't be able to eat anything on

Thanksgiving. We have talked about it and he seems to understand what is

going on in a limited way but I am worried he will completely freak out the

day of the surgery when we get to the hospital. Best of luck to you too!

Hi Alyssa,

Is Dr. Bahadori doing Calder's surgery?

was fevering on top of fevers leading up to surgery w/ Dr. Bahdori. The

doctor (and the anathesiologist) actually agreed to do surgery on while

he was at the end of a fever episode. Everything went well and the fever was

gone after surgery.

Calder might actually get to eat on Thanksgiving after all (especially some

mashed potato, cut up turkey, and stuffing smothered in gravy). ate like

normaly 48 hours after surgery. All of those foods are really soft and should

go down very easy. I also found that felt really well the first 4 or so

days after surgery. It really was day 5-9 that were especially tough.

Unfortunatly I could not work the full 10 days of recovery, as had a

really hard time with the pain. He is also in daycare and the doctor advised

against exposing him to those germs until he was healed. He was probably

especially cautious, as was only 24mos at the time.

Good Luck! We have been fever free and 100% healthy since surgery in May. Hope

you get the same results.

So far no fever and only two more days to go. I never received a return

call from Bahadori's office but had Calder at his pediatrician for his

presurgery check up and he told me he did not know of any contraindication

with taking the steroid before the surgery. Hopefully we will not have to

even think about it.

We have a special toy for Calder for after the surgery (Ironman, his

favorite). I am just getting nervous about the whole thing but I am sure it

will all go fine.

Hi, with Damian's fevers coming every two weeks on prednisone, we'd

give one dose and skip a day and have to give him a second dose, we

decided the T/A was the way to go. It's very common for the

prednisone to increase the frequency of fevers. Damian was also sick

with other " normal " things between episodes, too. He would have ear

infections. That may have been from the year prior being undiagnosed

and then using the prednisone reduced his immune system. Good luck,

Lynn
