The BBB can be broken down by:

Hypertension (high blood pressure): high blood pressure opens the

BBB

Development: the BBB is not fully formed at birth.

Hyperosmolitity: a high concentration of a substance in the blood

can open the BBB.

Microwaves: exposure to microwaves can open the BBB.

Radiation: exposure to radiation can open the BBB.

Infection: exposure to infectious agents can open the BBB.

Trauma, Ischemia, Inflammation, Pressure: injury to the brain can

open the BBB.

these open up the 'gates' for viruses, which get to the brain and

start destroying cells that produce myelin, while simultaneously

attacking the myelin. Of course once the myelin is broken down, many

other things can affect nerve transmission, heat, cold, chemicals,

certain foods,etc., etc. These just aggravate the situation. I'm

beginning to think because of this whole lyme issue that MS is more

viral than anything else. Everything that we do and everything that

we take help us in one way or the other to cope with the symptoms. I

think lyme and its spirochetes are just one of many viruses

involved. Herpes virus, etc. There are many others. I think

they're 'hiding' in there, just waiting for the right moment to get

to the brain, waiting to 'cross that line'!
