Guest guest
Hi Sylvia... I know that if you take cyclosporin you should not eat any kind of grapefruit...or drink its juices.... I happen to already know this but with the script comes a print out stating this and the pharmacy also has a letter of warning on their counter to not injest grapefruits while taking certain meds....I only really remember the cyclo since Ty is on it... But if you go to the pharmacy and ask I am sure they can give you some info on it... take care and talk soon Luanne Ty's mom
Guest guest
Sylvia - I don't know the facts but when I was lots of different medications, primarily to control my out of control blood pressure, on the prescription bottles it was written 'do not take this medicine with grapefruit'. Can't remember the names of the drugs now, it may have been the calcium beta blocker. Personally I've steered clear of acidic fruit as my joint pain decreased when I stopped eating them which may have been coincidental only. Guest guest
There is a particular immunosupressant...I don't recall which one but it is NOT Imuran, that shouldn't be taken with grapefruit juice. As I recall, the reason is that something in the juice enhances the effect and can cause the drug to work TOO well so that the immune system is overly supressed. Strange, huh? I will look this up and try to follow up with more details. > > Numerous individuals say don't take grapefruit juice with meds, ie, > lipitor, calcium, etc. Others say you can't drink it at all. Guest guest
Ah, yes. Somebody beat me to it! Cyclosporine is the one that can't be taken with grapefruit juice. Interesting. > > > > Numerous individuals say don't take grapefruit juice with meds, ie, > > lipitor, calcium, etc. Others say you can't drink it at all. > However, when > > I search on the manufacturers drug site, I can't find any > contraindications > > for grapefruit juice with the meds. Guest guest
Dear Dr. Jerry, I have AIH and have tested negative for the Hep C virus as well as all the others. Does that mean I have never had Hep C? or does it mean that I could have had it, but that it has cleared from my system now? My doctor says I never had it. I’ve seen so many articles implicating Hep C as a causative factor in the development of AIH. Lately, I’ve felt tired and achy. Strange, it’s not a cold or flu. Thanks for your input; much appreciated. [ ] Grapefruit Juice Question There are more than just cyclosporine.... one the sites I sent lists them and the reactions.... I'll send it again if you missed it... some of them are common to this group... jerry : )
