Take Action now to bring an end to the institutional bias of long-term care in the United States. ADAPT and other disability rights advocates are calling for Senate and House hearings on MiCASSA by the end of March, 2004. Senators Harkin, and Spectre recently issued a non-partisan request for a hearing on MiCASSA, the Money Follows the Person Act and bringing an end to the institutional bias of long-term care. We need to support that request for a hearing. Hundreds of thousands of seniors and people with disabilities are currently forced into institutions due to the lack of community-based services. MiCASSA (Medicaid Community Attendent Services and Supports Act) would bring an end to the bias, but it is currently stuck in committee. Send a letter to Senator Tauzin, outgoing chair, and Joe Barton, incoming chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, pushing for a hearing by March 31, 2004. With your help, we can make 2004 the year that we pass MiCASSA and stop forcing our people into institutions when they want to live at home! Free our People!
