Guest guest
Hi Chuck, You're welcome...and thanks for explaining how this works. I understood it was not an ongoing thing, nor recommended to be continued, although a maintenance amount following initial treatment was recommended. I didn't understand exactly how 'the oil' method worked...I wasn't sure if it decreased absorption, since I thought Iodine was water soluble, rather than oil soluble, which you confirmed, or if it slowed absorption...or what... BTW, what I've read so far, 37.5 mg - 50 mg is what Dr. Brownstein has recommended for oral replacement of a deficiency, usually for about three months, sometimes up to a year, and rarely as long as up to three years; depending on which category a person fell into, once the deficiency is corrected, a person would reduce to much smaller maintenance dosages...(this is just my interpretation of what HE says)... ;-) So, downwind would be given injections after a nuclear reaction...how does this differ from the government having a store of iodine tablets to dispense after a nuclear fall-out? > > , > > Thanks for sending us back: > > > http://www.thyroidmanager.org/Chapter20/20-frame.htm > > > > They gave some orally and some intramuscular injections of 20 - 960 mg > > of iodine ... > > These are NOT daily doses, but a single oral and intramuscular administration of iodized oil, commonly called lipiodol or ethiodol and sold under the brand names, UF or Oriodol. The oil slows the peak absorption and keeps it in the system longer. This one shot approach is a treatment that has been tried in endemic IDD areas, where doping the salt supply won't be universally effective. The problem with this approach (besides the risks) is that it has to be repeated to prevent developmental problems. A single shot right before pregnancy evidently gets the baby through birth, but the growing child will need it later. > > If there is a nuclear reactor accident, people downwind will be given similar doses of iodine to prevent absorption of the radioactive kind. > > However, neither example implies that it is a good idea to get a daily dose above 1 mg. They are both situations where the risks are outweighed by the benefits. That analysis does not apply to doping your morning orange juice with Lugol's. > > Chuck >
Guest guest
G'morning Gracia, I would think this is because these are what they have determined to be their own individual needs. Since they don't take the same amounts, they must have very real differences, which have brought them to their own conclusions as to the amounts they, as individuals, each do need... > > > Brownstein himself continues to take 50mg Iodoral, while Abraham takes 100mg. > Brownstein is now doing mostly research and accepting no new patients. > Gracia
