Hi Nia,

Boy, do I know about depression with the Beck program. I haven't shared it

with this group, but I did with the beck-n-stuff group. For me, it became

extreme. Sometimes I would cry for hours at a time. It lasted up until 85

hours, then everthing lifted. I can say it's well worth perservering tho.

I feel much better than I have in years. I would tell you more, but I'm in

a rush. By the way, depression is not my normal personality.

Gotta run. Good luck,

Gail

Has anyone gotten depressed or feeling out of sorts by just taking

CS? I've not done the BE yet. I took it for a few days around the

end of Dec., start of Jan. and felt a bit depressed or ? But, it

could have been due to sinus pressure or other holiday stresses too.

I've been having a bad bout of sinitus recently and it can cause

headaches, etc. But, I was curious if the CS could cause something

too, perhaps due to detoxing? I am not normally a depressive person

too. I just don't want to be afraid to take this stuff in the future.

Hi Steve,

It could be a herx or it could be the season. There are so many other

variables to consider though. One of the greatest causes of any depression

is the artificial sweetener - Aspartame, Equal, NutraSweet - now found in

over 9000 products - frequently without any specific detail in the product

label - also found in pharmaceuticals. If it's 'sugar-free' 'diet' 'no added

sugar' and is super sweet, CAUTION!

Although it's rare, I did find one reference to metallic silver (not CS) and

depression from:

http://www.elixa.com/silver/lindmn.htm

~~~~Looking just a little deeper into the situation, I pulled out Lectures on
Homeopathic Materia Medica by J.T. Kent. In the section on the use of
metallic silver as a homeopathic remedy, there are 7½ pages of indications
(symptoms) that include actions on the nerves and cartilage, as well as
increased tendency toward emotional outbursts and mental excitability. In
fact, the list of symptoms is rather extensive. So, exposure to silver may
not kill you or cause organic disease, but that may not mean there is no
toxicity. Apparently, silver has the ability to act as a subtle irritant as
well as lodge in certain tissues. This suggests that taking colloidal silver
every day may not be a good idea for people who already have these
symptoms.~~~~~~~~
A close friend of my started experiencing depression after about 2
weeks of using a BE unit. After some comtemplation she cut down to
about 1/2 hour per day with the unit and is feeling better. I also
led her through some chi gong exercizes which cut down on her
crying/depression.
Hi Steve,
I'm glad you posted about your friend's depression. I think it's important
to post both the positive and negitive effects. I do think my depression
was extreme, but I don't really think I'm any different than anybody else.
Maybe the degree is different, but more than one has experienced depression.
I also think the idea of having her cut back to 1/2 hour was good. I didn't
choose to do that. I just kept charging right on. It was bad tho. Now I
can do the BE sometimes 3 or more hours at a time with no negitive effects.
It's great. Looking back tho, I wish I had gone a little slower. Could
have saved me some hard times, and that's what I would suggest to others.
Sometimes slower is actually faster. I was just in too much of a hurry, and
to tell you the truth, I'm still not healed! Still working on it tho.
Hope everybody is having a very good day. Let us hear from you.
Take care,
Gail
The only depression I've experience with MS has ALWAYS been as the first symptom of a true flare-up. In my case I believe depression has a physical cause somehow tangled up in the changes that occur during or just prior to an exacerbation. The depression is also one of the first symptoms to ease up as I come out of the exacerbation. I have not taken any anti-depressants since the depression is only for the duration of the flare-up.
I know another person with MS who has experienced depression the same way.
Ok, I gotta ask.
I see a lot of talk about Depression on other MS Forums.
Anyone taking LDN familiar with Depression in their history but not taking anything for it? Has LDN made any difference in your depression?
What about people taking a-d's before LDN, did you stop after being on LDN, or do you still take them?
As for myself, where MS is concerned, I believe that I will battle dpression as long as I can't live in what I consider, a productive manner. At one point about 4 years ago, I tried Zoloft, but it made no difference for me. I think that is because I don't have a chemical imbalance of any kind. I've just had the rug pulled out from under my life! I do quite a bit for someone with PPMS, but it pales so much in comparison to what I did before I lost the ability to walk! LDN doesn't seem to have made a difference in the depression. It's just a constant battle that, for myself, no amount of therapy can change. I just deal with it and try not to make people around me as miserable as I sometimes feel. I think I do OK.
hello,
I too experience depression with my first flare up, it got worse when I was dx. I mean really, who could have this disease (MS) and not be bummed out?
It is terrible. The more I researched it, the senses of hopelessness grew.
I was put on Rebif having a side effect of chemical depression.Am off it now.
I went on the welbutrin, it did not seem to help. What did help was finding LDN and regaining some hope. Hope that I could live with MS. Now 47 days on LDN my GP is helping me walk off 3 drugs
1. snthroid since my thyroid test is normal, we are thinking the symptoms were ms related
2. the welbutrin, since I am feeling so much better
3.neurontin I have taken this for years for diabetic neurophty in my feet and legs and then the pins and needles of MS. I was on the max dose and have cut it by a third.
I am one of the lucky ones getting a lot of help from LDN, I believe it is because I got on it early, was dx 12,2003, started LDN 2, 2004.
Is my depression totally gone? I don't know, I have stopped crying every day but I must admit having MS still upsets me, but the hopelessness is gone. I feel I can now wait for the cure and live my life while I do. Guess I will see what happens when I stop the welbutrin completely. The walk off will take some time.
Peace,
Zil
THIS DEPRESSION ISSUE IS VERY INTERESTING TO ME.
I DEVELOPED MS DURING MY DIVORCE TRIAL - 3 GRUELING DAYS OF
TESTIMONY. I'VE BEEN ON PROZAC SINCE - AND IT DOES THE
TRICK.
MY SISTER HAS DEPRESSION - ESPECIALLY AFTER THE BIRTH OF HER
2 BOYS. SHE HAS SYMPTOMS OF MS - BUT HAS BEEN TOLD SHE
DOESN'T HAVE MS. WE ALL KNOW THOUGH, DIAGNOSIS IS TOUGH. I
WENT TO 3 TOP-NOTCH NEUROLOGISTS BEFORE I EVEN KNEW WHAT MS
WAS.
NOW, MY BROTHER, A DOCTOR HIMSELF, COMMITTED SUICIDE IN 1999
AFTER A SEVERE BOUT OF DEPRESSION. DURING THAT TIME, HE
CONFIDED IN ME THAT HE THOUGHT HE HAD MS. THE AUTOPSY
SHOWED NOTHING - BUT THEN AGAIN, WHO KN0WS. DURING THIS
TIME, I DIDN'T HAVE A FLARE-UP, MAYBE BECAUSE I WAS MORE
CONCERNED ABOUT MY PARENTS AND SISTER.
MY POINT - I DON'T KNOW. DOES MS CAUSE THE DEPRESSION OR
DOES THE DEPRESSION BRING ON THE MS. IN MY FAMILY, THERE
SEEMS TO BE A CONNECTION.
ANOTHER QUESTION - IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE I GREW UP, THERE
ARE 8 CASES OF NEUROLOGICAL ILLNESSES IN KIDS I GREW UP
WITH. A NEARBY COMPANY WAS EXPELLING HEAVY METALS IN THE
AREA. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Bestaunt,
I also grew up near a metal casting plant and there were a lot of ms cases there.
There certainly also seems to be a link between stress, trauma, depression and ms. Which came first the chicken or the egg? A question with an answer that is not very significant. What really matters is what we do about it. The first step is education, the second is communication and understanding, the third is logic and what can we do about it.
The fourth is action. We can determine what that will be by communicating with each other.
Regards,
Tom
Thanks for the comments about depression. I'm wondering if any of you would be interested in listening to some .mp3 audio files and run a little experiment/test with me? Won't cost anything, just your time and interest and ability to listen to .mp3 files.
If anyone is interested, let me know, and I'll email you a link and my recommendation, and any other questions or concerns.
Just got this idea from reading the few responses. Reg, , , Marcie and Zil? Got a few hours to listen to some .mp3's?
