What is naramig? Is that an herb? If so, I won't use it unless my GI says

it is OK. As of late, she is not willing to let me have anything that

doesn't go by her!

It makes sense to me, but I have not heard of this before. Just wondering

if anyone else has had a problem like this.

Jerry, I have had headaches for the past two to three years. Indeed, it was

around this time that my liver counts started going up and they just said it

was all from the gall bladder (the liver counts) Actually, I just didn't

bother telling the doctors about the headaches because they wouldn't have

believed me anyway. There WAS major stress in my life during this time

too...our son's death, my grandmothers deaths, my Dad's sudden death,

....people kept dying, major surgeries for family members, litigation against

the brain injury facility in which our son died.....it was a pretty ugly

time from 1996 until recently through the death of Mom in March...bad times.

So, I just thought the headaches were from that....that is what everyone

told me...stress, stress....

So, when out of the clear blue, NOW WHEN THINGS ARE GOING WELL in my

life.......the headaches come out of the blue. I don't get it. Actually,

our lives have been the BEST in YEARS! My daughter is happily married, we

have a wonderful marriage.....we have a wonderful church family...I have a

wonderful job.....I want for NOTHING! So, stress just doesn't fit in here!

That is why I am thinking these headaches are from AIH....or suspecting.

Thanks for your input. I see the GI next week and will have the labs drawn

tomorrow for that visit.

Debby..... One morning in 1993, I got up and felt worse than usual so I

drank my usual breakfast.. a Budweiser.. that first one usually got me

going and after two I could take another into the bathroom and get in te

shower. But this morning 2 didn't do it so I drank another, was on my

way to the shower with my 4th when something unusual happened (for me)

I felt sick to my stomach.... I ran to the toilet where I erupted like

a fire hydrant

disgorging torents of bright red blood on my walls, toilet and bowl. I

never thought I'd stop..... I managed to get to the phone in the kitchen

1st spew what seemed like another gallon or two into the sink....called

the paramedics and sat down by the front door. I was very weak and

struggled with consciousness, but they got there and rushed me to the

hospital...not before decorating the inside of the ambulance and I

suspect the medics clthes wth some more. They tok me in the ER slaped me

on a table and SHOVED a plastic tube up my nose (man I hated that)

,stripped me and jammed what I thought was a bazilion needles and tubes

in my body They started a transfusion with univesal donor plasma and one

of whole bloo after they typed me.

I was barely able to speak but I asked the Dr. if Iwas dying. He said I

was. I was hemorrhaging s badly that the nasal was sucking blood out of

my stomach almost as fast as they were putting it in. found out later

from a nurse friend of mine that between the ER and IC(i was in IC for

5 days) that they used 21 units of blood and plasma before I stablized.

The worst part to me was that 2 of mighty daughters came home to all the

blood and didn't know what happened . They frantically called around and

found out which hospital I was in.I'l never forget the wide eyed

frightened look on their faces. standing in the ER at the foot of that

gurney surrounded by all these scurrying DRs. and staff and in my usual

manor I tried to say something to make them laugh .which probably was

lost in the translation as it is extremely hard to communicate with a

nasal tube down your throat. I'm sure the girls were flashing back on

ther beautifl mothe , whom we had watche\ die 4 yrs prior I was sent to

floor after IC only to be sent back the same day when I threw up a

torrent of blood against the rooms closet door scaring the bejeezus out

of the student nurse and my mother who were in the room. All total I was

in the hospital 13 days during which time I was told by everyone who

came in contact with me (no less than 406 people I think) That just 1

more drink may kill me.it didn't but I finally had enough April 29 the

next year and quit.with a lot of help and prayers. Anyway that ws the

1st time I became aware of esophageal varices although I had been having

black tarry stools and spitting up " coffee grounds " for a long time

prior. I ran the gamut of cirrhosis complications from then til Oct.

1995 when I was transplanteed. I must have ben endoscopied and

sclerotized a dozen times or more and transfused just as many times. You

name the complication of cirrhosis and i displayed it (including

" man-breasts " --- where was Seinfeld when I needed him?) As you can see

its a long story and this is just a small part of it. Anyway I survived

all the procedures we obsess about here sometimes. I've had 4 biopsies

and 4 paracetesisand my blood has been drawn 43 quadrilbazilion times

and I don't remember any pain that couldn't handle WITHOUT drugs. OFal

the things I think the nasal tubes ( 5 or 6 times) were my least

favoriteand 2 aterial blod draws were kind of uncomforable

Nowadays I'm limited to monthly blood draws and bi-annual colonoscopies.

(Of course three was that time they dug a 6 ft. by 3 ft diameter needle

in my hip bone to draw bone marrow, which took longer than it should''ve

because I was making the assissting nurse laugh and the doctor got a

little chuckle too...but thats another story. Along the way I've lost my

fear of death (except by certain, too horrible to mention means)

" Pain is only pain... "

after all tommorow is another day.

I went thru all this and more and I'm still my cute, cuddly ,adorable

self.....except of course for that toe I stubbed yesterday which is a

DIRECT consequence of AIH

Jerry, thanks......I suppose I shold just sit back and not stress over small

stuff! LOL......I keep hearing of people have the portal hypertension, and

don't understand it except that sometimes they have major bleeds. That must

be one of the MOST frightening things that could happen.....yikes.....don't

want to go through that! I flip out over a hang nail that I bit off and

bleeds lots!

Jerry....OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! Your poor daughters. They must have been

totally terrified! Poor babies! I cannot EVEN imagine the horror they had

when they saw that! Not to mention how horrible YOU must have felt during

the entire process. NOW, it makes sense why you can tolerate pain! Heck,

you have had so much poking and prodding that pain is NOT really pain unless

you pass out and then you don't NEED any pain meds! God bless you! Wow!

You truly ARE amazing and make my problems seem like truly nothing! Thanks

for reminding me that there is ALWAYS someone worse off!
