Guest guest
Begin forwarded message: From: " Hershey " <laurahershey@...> Subject: great short-term opportunity for reporter at the UN working group meetings This is to announce an opportunity that might be perfect for someone who has some knowledge of international disability issues AND excellent writing skills. This year, the United Nations working group that is drafting an international Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities will be meeting in New York from May 24 through June 4, and again from August 23 through September 3. I will be working for the Landmine Survivors Network, covering these working group meetings, and producing daily summaries of the proceedings. These summaries will provide an informational link for people all over the world who want to follow the progress of the negotiations. I will serve as an co-editor for this project; Robin s and Margaret Holt will be the reporters. Another reporter is being sought to work on this project with us. This person would need to be in New York for both sessions (plus an extra day or two before and after each session), and be able and prepared to work full-time during the sessions. Duties would include: attending daily sessions and taking detailed notes; writing draft summaries under tight deadlines; working with me to produce final drafts; checking facts and details by referencing tape recordings of the sessions and/or by contacting the individuals involved; and other related duties. While this reporter position is unpaid, the Landmine Survivors Network will pay all travel costs to and from New York, including lodging and food. LSN will also consider paying for disability-related accommodations as needed. Qualifications include: excellent writing skills; the ability to work quickly and accurately; some knowledge of disability issues, international human rights issues, and/or UN procedures; experience providing detailed documentation of lengthy meetings; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and enough energy to sustain a heavy workload and hectic schedule for two weeks at a time. This is an opportunity for someone to see history in the making, and to gain valuable experience that could enhance future employability. Please bring this to the attention of individuals you know who might be qualified and available. Interested applicants should contact Zahabia Adamaly at zahabia@... AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Thanks. peace, Hershey
