Some people have felt relief after one or two shots, others take more time. It took over 6 months for me to see results. Remember, Xolair is NOT a fast acting medication like albuterol or other rescue inhailers. My doctor told me that some people have not seen results till they have been on Xolair a full year. Give it some time and hang in there Trust your doctor! He/she will know how to treat your individual case. Better breathing to you, Doug
Guest guest
It took me just over 2 months. I have a pretty high IgE score (785 or something like that). Welcome to the group! Addy

I started taking Xolair last Nov and took it for 2 months. My Xolair reps told me that it should kick in by 1 month and no longer than 3 to 4 months. Well, when I took the first shot, i immediately felt better in 3 hours. My doctor told me I was nuts thinking that it was the Xolair. Well, the first month came and went, and I felt that at the end of two weeks I was always panting to get the next shot. 3 months went by and I slowed down the rate of prednizone to taking it sometimes, my combivent to once a day, a long with pulmicort and singular. Well, after 4 months, I started to panic as I developed high blood pressure. I did not know if it was the Xolair or me. So, in the 5th month my doctor decided to stop the Xolair. By this time it had been 1 month since I had taken any prednizone, but unfortunately I had developed high blood pressure. Does anyone else feel the same symptoms?. Well, I stopped taking Xolair. I had no one to talk to or refer to whether how I was doing (lol I had not found this group as yet). My intake of inhalers started going up and on this tuesday I was back on 20mg of prednizone. That is when I found Dougs group. Today, I went to my doctor and he gave me the next dose. We have decided to try it out continuously for 6 months. Already I feel better today. This is all thanks to Doug! I hope it works again.
Guest guest
I saw your post on another user's group where you indicated you had been taking Singulair. Are you still on it? I took singulair for about a year and had a lot of problems with it (all detailed in an earlier post). I'm no doctor, and don't want to dispense medical advice, but you might look at that as a potential source for your high blood pressure problem. My problems with Singulair didn't start until I was on the medication for about 6 months, and ultimately became serious enough to warrant a 10-day stay in the hospital. I no longer take Singulair, and since starting on Xolair last August, I have cut my pred dosage by more than half and have also cut back on other inhalers (Flovent, albuterol). I no longer carry the albuterol inhaler that I have habitually carried in my pocket every day for 25 years. I keep one at home, one in my car, one in my desk, and one in my briefcase, but never seem to need to use them except prior to exercise (and then only as a precaution). For me, this has been one of the most positive results of the Xolair. I HATE that rescue inhaler because it has been a constant reminder of this handicap. I still take allergy shots once a week, and still use Advair 500 twice daily. I'm going to see my allergist next Friday and am going to ask about cutting back to Advair 250. Good luck with your Xolair. So many of us have found it to be a 'life-giver-backer'. I saw positive improvement within 24 hours of my first shot, and my symptoms continue to improve with each subsequent dose. Greg > > Hi, > > I am new to the group also. You are most welcome and thanks for joining our support group Remember, we here are NOT doctors just Xolair patients like yourself. We are each separate individuals and all react to Xolair differently. ALWAYS trust your doctor's judgement FFIRST about taking Xolair, etc... The only time in my life that I ever had any kind of high blood pressure was when I took large doses of Prednisone for over a month. At that time, I was taking it for a skin condition called " Lichen Planus not asthma. Happy breathing Doug
Guest guest
Hi Doug, Yes I agree with you. I will always keep that in mind. Thanks. I think that is probably how I developed high blood pressure by taking prednizone. My doctor saw my chart over the last couple of years recently, and I always seem to have spouts of hypertension. It's just that it started getting serious after I took Xolair, so I came to the wrong conclusion. But I believe it has to do with taking prednizone and thilidomide all my life. Happy breathing to everyone also! Ash > > > It took me just over 2 months.
