Guest guest
This is nothing unusual for some of you, but it has been determined that I am working in a 'sick office' Turns out there has been a roof leak behind the wall that is behind some cabinets in my office and the mold growth has been rampant. This afternoon the cabinets are coming out and moving away from the wall to a different wall. The carpet may have to come up, too (I suggested replacing it with tile). My asthma symptoms have been steadily getting worse for the past few weeks since things have been warming up. The leak was discovered because my office has developed an unusual aroma (different from the usual aroma, ha ha). My eyes burn all the time, and my sinuses have been a nightmare. Hopefully this will clear things up. We're going to see if moving things so that everything can dry out will do the trick. Totally clearing out the office and putting down tile will have to wait until this summer, because it is a week-long job. Some things even Xolair can't overcome. The church auditorium itself had mold growing up the walls and had to be torn down. We are in the buliding that was connected to it. The church is now meeting in the Family Life Center until the new building program is complete. When I first moved into that office, my nasal allergies and asthma got a whole lot worse. I bought a HEPA air filter that helped me a lot...plus, I am on my maintenence dose of regular allergy shots AND Xolair. I am doing fine now Doug
Guest guest
Well, we pulled the cabinets away from the walls this afternoon. The dust and mold in the carpet was literally 1/2 " thick. I am going to bring a steam cleaner in tomorrow and clean the carpet, plus vaccum everywhere I can. Of course, the inhalation of dust this afternoon is killing me, but hopefully it will be over soon. I still have a plan to put in tile this summer because it will be easier to keep clean. One thing that doesn't help - we have a manufacturing office right next to my office that involves sanding and creates a lot of dust. They have to clean the area three times a day. Even though we are separated by a block wall, the dust is still seeping through and coming into my office. The big problem, though, in my opinion, is the water that was coming in. At least now I can keep that area dry. Greg
