Guest guest
Does anybody here know any kids who might have tried xolair in the clinical trials or somebody who might be taking it. I'm thinking of getting my 7 yr.old into the clinical trials. I have discussed it with his doctor. He has very severe ashtma and food allergies. Anaphalyxis to multiple foods and also GERD. He takes pulmicort and albutorol 4 times a day, singulair, hydroxizine and he has been taking a lot of prednesone for last 2 yrs and has been having to take lots of antibiotics for his continuous struggle with sinus infections, he also takes prevacid for reflux. I'm worried about his bones and general health. He only weighs 45 lbs. Any input will be helpful. thankyou.
Guest guest
I don't know of any children on the trials. You might ask your doctor to contact the Xolair rep and see if they can put you in touch with a doctor who has pediatric patients in one of the trials. You might also contact Mothers of Asthmatics (they have a website, but I don't know the address) and see if they can help you find some mothers of children on the trials. They might even have a support group. That said, I have an idea of what you are going through. I " m 36 and was diagnosed at age 3. My parents did everything available to try to make me healthy. Every patient/family has to make their own risk/benefit analysis, but God, how could you not try it? Good luck, and please let us know what you decide/how it goes? Now he weighs 51 lbs and all seems to be o.k. We have not had any reactions and the only side effect I can see is extreme hunger and hyperactivity(maybe just part of being a boy), it usually only last for a few days. It has kept him from getting as severe cases of pnemonia(weeks of hospitalization) but he still gets it. my son is on daily albuterol nebulizer treatments twice a day, singular, zyrtec, nasonex, and allergy shots every 2 weeks. he is allergic to almost everything from animals to food to environment. I am worried about the new guidelines from the fda about anaphalyxis posibilites for up to 24 hours after the shot so we have put his injections on hold for now until we can get them done at a hospital or the insurance won,t cover it. hope this helps
