Guest guest
Doug, Glad to hear your good news! I think we were all concerned about your frustration. Even though I consider my symptoms to be well under control, I have not seen that kind of significant improvement in my peak flows. Now I am jealous! Nice to hear from the other posters, too. I checked up on the treatment referred to in the earlier post, EPD, and found that it is currently banned in the U.S. Despite this, there is an 'American EPD Society'. You can find out more at: http://www.food- allergy.org/epd.html I am trying to learn more about food allergies and their potential effects on MY asthma. The frequently named culprits, wheat gluten and milk, are primary staples in my diet. It's hard to cut these out long enough to see any difference in how I feel, if, in fact, there would be any difference. Spring is coming here, too. I am excited/concerned about what to expect once the trees and grasses start coming out. Greg
Guest guest
Hi Greg, It's true that EPD is banned in the States now. For years the FDA has allowed EPD and many patients have found incredible relief (often permanent, so they didn't need any further treatement). For some reason the FDA has recently banned EPD. They are currently researching EPD and untill then EPD won't be available. But the good news is that an American docter (Dr. Shrader) has modified EPD in such a way that it is allowed by the FDA. This new treatement (wich seems to be even more succesfull) is called LDA (Low Dose Allergens). It is very succesfull and worth a try. Go to the EPD mailinglist and read all you can. When you're not within the Xolair group of patients (cause it's too expensive or your just allergic and not asthmatic...or it just doesn't work for you) read about LDA (EPD). The only downside is that around the time of treatement you have to follow a very strict protocol! That's why I now can't continue (eventhough it helped me a lot)cause I have to take care of my very ill friend...following the protocol is just impossible (hoping for Xolair to come over hear) You can find all information at: http://www.dma.org/~rohrers/allergy/epd_faq.htm.
