Guest guest
HI LEIGH ANN WELCOME WE ARE SO GLAD YOU HAVE FOUND US. You will find lots of good information here and we are so glad to see us. You are really on top of things you must be a great mommy. it sounds like your sons plagio must have started inutero-that is how my babies were. Have you noticed any tilt with his head or only wanting to look or lay on one side? He could have a condition called torticollis as well that is why I ask both my kids were born with this. helmet therapy can be very effective particularly when starting treatment early and you have that on your side. Repositioning can be very effective as well but very hard to do particularly as these babies get older and more active. Tummy time is so important so offer as much as you can while he is awake and supervised. I am going to give you lots of links to explore make sure you look at the home pages you will find lots more information there as well. Once again glad youa re here hope you find information support and answers here I am sure you will. Ask any question youd like and keep up the great mommy work. we would love to see pictures of devon if you have them and know more about you and where you are from. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. At 7 weeks, Devon is at a great age for wonderful correction. I know it is overwhelming. My daughter didn't get a band until 9 months and still received 80% correction in 12 weeks. Where are you located. There may be someone in the group who lives near by and could recommend a great specialist or orthotist. Many of our kids are in the photos section. Some show correction they received through banding and some repositioning success stories. I believe both cranial technoligies (DOCband)and orthomerica (STARband) websites show before and after pictures. Has your sons doctor reccommended seeing a specialist or getting a band? I'm sure many people will chime in with great links you can check out. Welcome again to the group. The people here are very supportive and helpful! Angie and Jenna (STARband grad 1/21/03) just found this site I just found this group after a search looking for answers/information for our son Devon (7 weeks) and the asymmetry of his head/face. I am a little scared and wondering if anyone can tell me about the prognosis with the helmet. I am worried about his face/ear/jawline. Does anyone know where I can see pictures of before and after treatment? (Or any other information you think would be helpful). Thank you, Leigh Ann For more plagio info

Guest guest
Hi Leigh Ann and welcome! I see you've already gotten quite a bit of feedback so I'll just add my welcome and say that I'm glad you have joined us. At 7 weeks you could possibly have great success with repositioning and supervised tummy time. In fact, you would even have some time to try repo and still get a band if you decide in a month or so that repo alone isn't doing the trick! Best wishes to you and Devon and please keep us posted. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. This is a great group. Jenna didn't have a sweating issue but she was banded in the fall and winter. For cleaning I was allowed to just use rubbing alcohol. Then the last 3 weeks I was allowed to use and s shampoo once a week. Jenna had a STARband though. I would check with your orthotist before doing that. I can't give any decorating tips because I never got Jenna's decorated. The time flew by so fast. I kept saying I would go get some stickers soon and the next thing I knew they grADUated Jenna. Jenna was banded at 9 months and wore it for 12 weeks. I bet is a cutie! I can't wait to heaR ABOUT HIS CORRECTION! aNGIE AND jENNA(starBAND GRAD 1/21/03) Just found this site I have a son with positional plagio and brachy...We just started with a Doc band last Thursday. He tolerates it well, just gets pretty sweaty. I try ot towel him off frequently. We are in the Houston area and travel about 2 hours to get to the Orthotist. He seems pretty nice. No probelms yet, does seem like one ear is cut a little off on the band though.any ideas for the smell??? Been looking throuh posts here seems mostly about pictures...I don't have a digital camera so you can't see my sweetie. He looks like a bruiser with this helmet on though. also could use ideas on painting - I got some spray paint, but not sure how to do it without getting it on the inside and the velcro.TIA ( 10 months) in TXFor more plagio info
Guest guest
, hi and welcome!!! I'm glad you found this group! What a great bunch of knowledgable parents we have here. I'm not in Houston but in TX. My daughter went to the Dallas CT office. I'm trying to think if anyone on the board actively is using the Houston office. I've lost it right now. The heat and humidity in South TX is horrible this time of year. I would suggest keeping inside as much as possible. Dress him in just a diaper if possible. The smell.......well, part of it. 's band starting smelling like her daddy's dirty socks and we just got use to it. After you clean the band with alcohol, I would suggest sitting it outside int he direct sunlight or in front of a fan to dry. That helps alot with the stinch. Sounds like your doing great and so is . If your concerned about the opening around the ear, I would call the ortho and ask them to look at it. It normally takes a few weeks to get just the right fit of the band. Good Luck and keep us updated on your sweeties progress! Oh, almost forgot. I have no idea about spray painting the band. I'm sure someone here will chime in on that one and help you out. Guest guest
Hi & welcome to our group!!! I'm happy to hear is doing well in his band so far. As replied, the sweat will significantly decrease soon. Once the body temp adjusts to their new band on their head, the sweating really decreases, usually about one wk or so. There's good decorating tips at www.plagiocephaly.org/support , i think i saw Cranial Techs website had decorating ideas as well in their "parents area" www.cranialtech.com For the smell, use some good strong smelly shampoo to wash his hair, like Loreal Watermelon or something fruity, I also sprayed Abby's hair with wacky watermelon detangler that kind of masked the nasty odors. But unfortunately, there's really no miracle cure for that smell!! Boy I don't miss that!! hehe. Welcome again, we're glad to have you. Too bad you can't share pictures of your cutie! Guest guest
- Our clinic suggested using 91% alcohol (the normal stuff is 70%, but you can get 91% at drug stores also) to clean the inside of the band. It works GREAT! I have also found that using a toothbrush (a new one) worked better than rubbing with a cloth. Good luck! They will accomodate any trims for comfort as long as it doesn't compromise treatment. I asked CT to shave my son's ear cut out as well, it just seemed a little too pinchy and was always rubbing- one trim was all it took to have a satisfied parent and a satisfied ortho that I was out of her hair Good luck and use the alcohol to clean, let it dry in the sun or a fan, works wonders on the smell. Wash your son's hair first, let it sit lathered for a few minutes and then rinse, helps too. keep us posted! nicholas'mom
Guest guest
Hi all, My name is and i am 18 yo and I have had asthma for four years now, it is not very well controlled at all, about a year a go i had an IgE taken and it came back normal and then about a month ago i had another IgE done and it was over 500, with zyrtec and claratin d in my system, i am eagerly awaiting the approval of the xolair, however im a little worried that it might not work because, its only been this past year that my allergies have been bad, before this year, i had no real allergies to anything. So i was woundering is there a high chance that the xolair might not work? Thank you in advance for any input.
