I was told by the Xolair rep that nobody gets to take the drug home,

that it is always given in the doctor's office. Anybody know

different?

I have been giving myself the shots for 3 months now with no problem.

Took some serious negotiating with my doctor, though.

What helped was the fact that I have been giving myself allergy

shots for about 8 years.

I know of a few other members of the group who are self-

administering the drug, too, but not many.

I use curascrips, and they have actually FedEx the medicine to my

house. I have not injected myself however.

I have been on allergy shots all my life. Starting last year, my

allergists (2 in another city and 1 here) stopped letting people give

themselves REGULAR allergy injections at home. I had been giving them

to myself for 30 years with not a SINGLE reaction!!

Are they going let me give myself the Xolair at home??? NO WAY! They

were shocked when I asked them! Forget the 20 minute wait

afterwards. After Xolair, they make me wait a full hour!!!

When I told the nurse and the doctor that people on this list were

giving themselves xolair at home, they looked at me with a " you have

to be kidding " look and really thought I was kidding. I wasn't.

I guess it is up to the doctor you use. Some are very picky and don't

want to take ANY chance of you getting a reaction, others it seems

don't mind the risk.

I am just glad to be able to get the drug :) BTW everyone, I blew a

750 Peak flow last Friday in the Dr's office. Thats wayyyyy up from

500 6 months ago before I started Xolair. Also, I am OFF the pred!

Yes, Xolair is definitely working for me :)

My doctor told me that Novartis is working on a self-injecting

treatement and it should be out hopefully in the next 2 months. This

way, all of us won't have to go to the doctors every two weeks.

I think the main reason my doctor told me that I have to go to him to

get the injections is that, during the trial period a couple of

people got a reaction to the injection immediately after receiving

it. So, I think doctors have been cautious. Previously he used to

make me await for 1 hour also, but now he lets me leave as soon as I

get the injection.
