Guest guest
Marge, My doctor told me that a " normal " IgE level is anything below 25. The threshhold for Xolair use is 100 - Xolair is intended for patients with a score above 100. So you certainly meet the qualifications in that regard. That said, there are some of us in this group with scores well above that. A second indicator for Xolair is how poorly one's asthma is controlled using all the more traditional methods, including immunotherapy. I'm sorry to hear that you are so anxious about beginning Xolair. I was so excited, I couldn't wait. Just the thought that there might finally be a medicine that would mean meaningful improvement was so amazing to me. I was afraid I would be disappointed. So far I am incredibly pleased by the results. Please post Tuesday or Wednesday and let us know how you're doing after you get your first treatment. Addy PS Doug - again, thanks for getting this group started!!!!
Guest guest
Addy, Actually the threshold for IgE is anything above 30. There are some patients that even have a lower IgE than 30 on the drug. Some believe there is a surpressive effect in relation to oral steroids on IgE. It really does revolve around symptoms and control. pyle456 wrote: Marge, My doctor told me that a "normal" IgE level is anything below 25. Guest guest
I am one of the patients whose IGE level was " low " , however it was considered suppressed due to 20 years of daily high dose oral steroids, so there was no problem getting the use approved by any of the parties involved...I was one of the miracle responders, so I agree with Dean, it is also about symptoms and control. Xolair will not help folks who dont have an allergic component to their asthma, so asking for some proof of allergy is quite reasonable<vbg> P > Addy, > > Actually the threshold for IgE is anything above 30. Guest guest
Hi, ph has always run high IGE levels. He continues to run high as we repeated his immune studies last Feb for the third time in his life. He does have mild eczema and gets hives from his own sweat! We have not done allergy tests yet. I am waiting until he is a little older hoping he will " outgrow " some of his allergens! He has hayfever... and he is allergic to shedding dogs, cats and other furry animals he has touched! He does not appear to be allergic to foods... but in a couple of years I will most likely get his allergies checked.... and see where we are at. We see an immunologist in our old state of Florida and plan to see one some time next year... at Duke in NC. For now he is doing great! He did get mouth sores last month with no fever... for the first time but they are not so bad... as he tolerates them well and stays away from foods that bother the open sores. Prior to this he had mouthsores about 5 times and they were always with a fever. Guest guest
Yes my son also had a high IgE. The doctor had said it was a " gut " allergy (whatever that means). He really does not seem to have allergies except once in while he will get red eczema patches on his face which seemed to be brought on after drinking milk but not always. Anyway we have not pursued it any further. But that is interesting there are other children that have elevated IgE.
